Good Omens Season 3 Reduced by Prime Video Into A Series Finale

Good Omens

Despite the success of Good Omens Season 1 and 2, Amazon’s Prime Video decides to axe the upcoming third season into a 90-minute feature. This news comes after freezing plans for the third season. The reduction comes as a plan to separate the art from the artist after five women accused show producer and writer Neil Gaiman of sexual impropriety. Here’s everything you need to know about Good Omens Season 3.

Good Omens Season 2 Ending

Good Omens Season 2 ended with Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) going their separate ways. Angel Gabriel’s memory is returned, and the two abandon their posts in Heaven and Hell. However, Aziraphale accepts Gabriel’s job after an angelic authority offers it, Metatron (Derek Jacobi). After witnessing the Gabriel-Beelzebub love story, shopkeepers Maggie and Nina convince Crowley to confess and stop ignoring their underlying romantic feelings.

Before Crowley can confess, Aziraphale tells Crowley he’s accepted the job running Heaven, and if he accepts, he can have Crowley reinstated as the angel and join him. Crowley is appalled by this idea, not wanting to have anything to do with Heaven and Hell’s Armageddon-loving hands after the torture they went through. Despite professing his love, Aziraphale chooses Heaven, and Crowley forgives him before they go their separate ways, but not without a first-time kiss.

From One Season to One Episode

Prime Video has good and bad news. The good news is that die-hard fans of the series based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett will have a series closure. The bad news is that it will become a 90-minute feature. The streaming platform was very close to shelving plans for a third season of Good Omens in September but recently announced that it will end the whole series with one feature-length episode.

In addition to this news, Prime Video reveals that Neil Gaiman is not a producer on the episode. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gaiman offered to step away and let the production proceed and conclude the story. However, he still contributed to the episode’s writing, to what degree remains unknown.

Neil Gaiman Allegations

Good Omens’ series reduction lies in the depressing reality of the sexual allegations surrounding novel writer and show producer Neil Gaiman. Earlier this year, the Tortoise Media podcast released a podcast series titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman, reporting several women coming forward to accuse the writer of sexually assaulting them and/or pressuring them into relationships they didn’t want.

The exposes led to several of Neil Gaiman’s works being canceled, and production paused amid the reports breaking. Aside from reducing the Good Omens series, Neil Gaiman’s works, such as Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives, have been canceled after one season. Disney’s film adaptation of Gaiman’s 2008 YA novel The Graveyard Book, currently in development, was also put on hold.

Final Thoughts

What Prime Video has done for Good Omens can be appreciated as they attempt to give the audience closure. The company took needed action to satisfy the moral to respect the victims. Shortening a season to a special catered to the needs of the passionate and sizable fanbase. Will fans accept the final chapter? Good Omens’ final episode will be in early 2025, suggesting a late 2025/early 2026 release.
