The Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise was one of the most successful franchises of the 2000s, but after its third entry, 2007’s At World’s End, its reception has dwindled. 2011’s On Stranger Tides and 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales failed to capture the same magic as the first three films. However, now the franchise has a chance to redeem itself with its sixth entry, which will feature some familiar faces.
Jerry Bruckheimer Will Return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6
Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer is confirmed to be returning for the sixth movie. According to ScreenRant, the movie will be “a new take,” but it will feature some returning actors, though he stated, “I’m not going to tell you which ones…you’ll have to guess.” This could mean that there has been difficulty getting certain actors to sign up, or it could simply mean that Bruckheimer wants to surprise the audience.
Orlando Bloom Wants to Return
Orlando Bloom, who played the heroic blacksmith Will Turner in the first three films, plus a small role in Dead Men Tell No Tales, said on the British talk show The Morning that he’s interested in returning to the franchise. He stated,
“I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like. I personally think it’d be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, so we’ll see where it lands.”
Will Johnny Depp be in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
Of course, all of this begs the obvious question about whether or not the franchise star Johnny Depp will return as the iconic, flamboyant Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp received an Oscar nomination for the first Pirates film, but after legal trouble with his wife Amber Heard, Disney supposedly cut ties with him. However, after Depp’s successful lawsuit against Heard, it’s possible that he and Disney could make amends.
Supposedly, there were two scripts being considered: one with returning characters and one that would be a reboot. Judging by Bruckheimer’s comments, it looks like they’ve settled on the one with returning characters. Perhaps we’ll see Jack Sparrow sail the sea once again. It’s difficult to imagine the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise without him.
