Phineas and Ferb Makes a Questionable Reboot

Phineas and Ferb

In August 2007, the first episode of Phineas and Ferb premiered on the Disney Channel. The animated series would become one of Disney’s most popular and profitable cartoons. Many fans adored the series for its lovable characters, unique humor that struck the right chord, and memorable songs. Almost ten years after the show’s final episode, the creators announced that the series would be rebooted. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming reboot.

Phineas and Ferb

The animated series followed step-brothers Phineas and Ferb and their older sister Candace. It’s summer vacation, and the boys want to make the most of it. However, making the most of it for Phineas and Ferb consists of building crazy things like rollercoasters, robots, cloning machines, and much more. Their sister Candace is obsessed with “busting” them to their parents, wanting their mother to believe her when she tells them about their contraptions.

The series has 129 episodes over 4 seasons and 8 years. It featured voices like Ashley Tisdale, Vincent Martella, Alyson Stoner, and Caroline Rhea. It had a feature movie and multiple crossover specials, including a Star Wars special and a Marvel one. The show was loved by Disney fans and was deemed a delightful show by the entire family. This is due to the show’s humor, which was geared towards all ages rather than just young children, and the show’s family values. Though Candace was constantly trying to bust her brothers, it was never a question of whether or not she loved, cared, or looked out for them.

The Upcoming Reboot

The reboot was announced at D23 this past summer. It was also announced that the full cast would be returning. Rather than a sequel series where things are different or characters are aged, this is more like a continuation. The show will take place a year after the original series ended and follows the cast during a new summer vacation. The creators, Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh say that the writer’s room of Phineas and Ferb is filled with new voices and more creativity. Not only are original writers returning to the series, but some new writers grew up as fans of the show.

The show will follow the same formula as the original. We’ll be following Phineas and Ferb as they try to make the most of their summer with the help of their friends. Candace will try her hardest to bust them to their mother, and their pet platypus Perry will be deep in his status as a secret agent, still trying to stop Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

Final Thoughts

While it seems that the reboot isn’t bringing anything new to the table, fans don’t mind. The new season is made for a specific audience: young Millennials and older Gen Z. These people are entering the harrowing throes of adulthood and could use some comfort along the way. This particular audience doesn’t want new concepts of their favorite shows and often complains about content of that nature. Fans of the series eagerly await seeing their favorite characters in all-new episodes, just the way they remember from their childhood. The Phineas and Ferb reboot is set to release sometime in 2025.
