A complete “Phantom Blade Zero” weapons guide means tracking down blades scattered across starting gear, weapon racks and boss arenas throughout Wulin. The game has 25 base main weapons, plus five stronger forms unlocked through Soul Tempering. Most unlock by defeating a specific story or side boss, according to guides from Game Rant and GameSpot, while a handful come from weapon racks, quests or a hidden boss fight. This guide collects every weapon, what it takes to add it to your collection and the two you can lose for good if you’re not careful.

“Phantom Blade Zero” launched Oct. 29 on PlayStation 5 and PC.

Starting weapons you have from the beginning

Two weapons are yours with no requirements. Wooden Sanguine is the tutorial blade from the prologue, with 161 Damage and 188 Guard Break. Sanguine, Soul’s signature sword, is equipped by default when Chapter 1 begins. It lists 227 Damage and 119 Guard Break in the equipment menu.

Early weapons from weapon racks

A couple of weapons don’t require defeating anyone. Sanguine Twin sits on a weapon rack just past your meeting with Yu’er in Weeping Creek Valley. She’s the one who hands you the Flesh Lily quest. Sanguine Reach, a two-handed take on Sanguine, leans on a rack right beside Forge, the blacksmith at the Weeping Creek Valley Outpost.

Weapons earned from Weeping Creek Valley and Crimson Forest bosses

Several of the strongest early blades come from boss fights in these two zones. Jagged Steel drops from Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute, in Weeping Creek Valley. Scarlet Wraithblade is easy to miss: Head to the Sha-Chi Tower in the northern part of the valley, find the opening with a wooden bridge in the machinery area and slide down to face Hua, Deadly Betrothed.

In Crimson Forest, The Fanatic’s Broken Blade comes from defeating Hua Qianxiao, the Sword Fanatic, near Pangzhen Bridge Overlook. Outlaw Warblade rewards the defeat of Jing Ye, the Outlaw. White Serpent & Crimson Viper comes from defeating Bai Chilian, though the weapons don’t land in your inventory until you wake up in the Village of Lu.

Weapons from the Village of Lu and the Tianxuan Sect

Tianxuan Bronze Sword drops from Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect.

The Village of Lu also holds the game’s only two missable main weapons: Fiend Saws and Wild Oriole Sword. Both are tied to the chapter’s final boss, Mu Xiaokui, Young Mistress of the Order. Before that fight, find and examine all five of her Red Ribbons around the village. Collecting them unlocks an extra phase against her guardians, Jade Dancer and Iron Fiend, and beating that phase earns Fiend Saws. Wild Oriole Sword waits at the dock after the fight, so grab it before you leave the area.

Weapons from Pangzhen and Mandate Encampment

Armybreaker comes from defeating Cavalrybane, Elite Shadow Warden, in Pangzhen. Parting Hooks becomes available after defeating Soulclaimer, Elite Shadow Warden, also in Pangzhen.

In Mandate Encampment, Soft Snake Sword drops from Wu Lengshuang, the Soft Sword, and Baishan Stormswords rewards the defeat of Yubi, No. 21 Swordfighter Puppet.

Weapons from Meigu Lake, Mountain of Imprisonment and Mirage Estate

Sundering Dual Axes becomes available by defeating Heartpiecer, Elite Shadow Warden, in Meigu Lake. Whiteshadow takes more legwork. You’ll need to get through the Mirror into the Phantom Illusionist Ruins, where Blizzard Blademaster guards the blade.

In Mountain of Imprisonment, Juggernaut rewards defeating Bi Feng, Giant Saber Commander, while Seamless Death comes from defeating Jade-Fang. Crescent Blade is earned in Mirage Estate, Pangzhen, by defeating Yuding, No. 12, Crescent Blade Puppet, near the Training Grounds.

Weapons from Mount Soulrend

The final region holds three late-game weapons. Bonesaw comes from defeating the Saw and the Crusher, and The Lady’s Fan rewards beating Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil. Aureate drops from Zuo Shang, the Order’s Shadow Sovereign, a fight tied to the True Ending route.

Secret boss weapon

Scarlet Wraithblade isn’t the only reward tucked behind optional content. Freezing Chaos comes from defeating Yucong, No. 34 Twisted Puppet, at the end of the Triple Threat quest line.

The quest starts early, when you beat the Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet near The Lady’s Rift in Weeping Creek Valley, but you can’t finish it until much later. After reaching Mirage Estate, you’ll collect three of the puppet’s Memory Flowers, then return to the snow-covered Crimson Forest with Blazing Edge equipped to face Yucong.

Soul-Tempered weapon forms

Five more weapons come from transforming ones you already own. Soul Tempering unlocks in Chapter 4 through Myst in Pangzhen and uses a weapon-specific material plus Remnant Dust. The five forms are Infernal Rouge from Sanguine, Blazing Edge from Sanguine Reach, Shadowless Edge from Sanguine Twin, The Fanatic’s Drunken Sword from The Fanatic’s Broken Blade and Tianmiao Wild Oriole Sword from Wild Oriole Sword. Think before you commit, since Soul Tempering can’t be undone.

How weapon upgrades work

Collecting a weapon is only the first step. Each weapon levels up individually using upgrade materials found throughout each zone. The upgrade system opens once you meet Forge at the Weeping Creek Valley Outpost, and after that you can upgrade at any Bell. New weapon perks unlock at levels 5, 10, 15 and 25, GameSpot reported, and weapons cap at level 30.

Experimenting with upgrades carries little risk early on. You can reset a weapon and recover your materials for free up to level 10, according to Game Rant. Past that point, you’ll need a Weapon Reforge Talisman to get your Remnant Dust and other materials back.

What’s next

“Phantom Blade Zero” ties most weapon unlocks to main story and side bosses, so progress naturally through each zone, from Weeping Creek Valley to Mount Soulrend, to build out a full armory. Just don’t rush the Village of Lu. Hunt down all five Red Ribbons before you fight Mu Xiaokui, because there’s no going back for Fiend Saws or Wild Oriole Sword. Once Mirage Estate opens, circle back for the Triple Threat quest and the Freezing Chaos reward waiting at the end of it.
