Petit Planet Switch 2 May Beat Genshin Impact to Nintendo

HoYoverse confirmed a Petit Planet Switch 2 release date window of 2027, announcing the port at the end of the game's Pre-Launch Special Program livestream.

HoYoverse will bring “Petit Planet” to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, the company revealed at the end of the game’s Pre-Launch Special Program livestream Nov. 1. The cozy life sim launches first on PC, iOS and Android on Dec. 4, so anyone waiting to play on Nintendo hardware has a longer road ahead.

The port would also mark a milestone for the studio. It would be HoYoverse’s first game on a Nintendo platform, beating the “Genshin Impact” Switch version the company announced in 2020, which has yet to arrive.

“Petit Planet” release date and platforms

  • Launch date: Dec. 4
  • Preloading begins: Dec. 1
  • Launch platforms: PC (Epic Games Store and client download), iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play)
  • Price: Free download with in-app purchases
  • Switch 2 release: 2027, with no specific date announced

Gematsu reported the launch platforms and storefronts when the game was dated in late October.

What the Switch 2 trailer showed

The short Switch 2 trailer shows a group of people playing together in handheld mode before one of them docks the system, offering a closer look at the game on a TV and at its photo mode. Siliconera reported that HoYoverse shared no further details about this version.

The game launches with cross-play across PC, iOS and Android. It isn’t yet clear whether the Switch 2 version will join in.

What is “Petit Planet”?

Players settle on a tiny planet of their own, then reshape its land, coastline and skies while decorating a home. Daily life includes farming, fishing, bug catching, beachcombing and cooking, according to HoYoverse’s overview of the game.

Fuzzy Neighbors can move in, and players can get to know them through gifts, shared meals and walks. Beyond the home planet, players can sail the Starsea for materials and new encounters or head to the Galactic Bazaar, a social hub for trading and hanging out with other players.

The free download does come with a catch for anyone wary of HoYoverse’s usual business model. GosuGamers reported that, judging by earlier playtests, “Petit Planet” will have gacha banners that offer cosmetics and decorations rather than characters. HoYoverse has also confirmed that more than 1,000 clothing and furniture items can be earned for free through gameplay, GosuGamers said.

Why it matters

Switch 2 is the first console version HoYoverse has announced for “Petit Planet,” which was revealed in 2025 with more platforms in development. The move also puts the game on the same hardware as “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” the life sim it has been compared to since its reveal.

What’s next

Pre-registration is open now, and preloading begins Dec. 1 ahead of the Dec. 4 launch. HoYoverse still has to share an exact Switch 2 release date, along with any console-specific features.
