Tom Blyth and Emily Bader will star in the upcoming adaptation of Emily Henry’s popular novel, People We Meet on Vacation. The novel follows two friends, Poppy and Alex, who, despite their busy lives, meet up every summer to vacation together. Originally released in 2021, People We Meet on Vacation is Henry’s highest-selling book and debuted at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list. Since its release, the book has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. While most details pertaining to the film’s production are still being kept under wraps, here’s everything to know so far.

Emily Henry’s book follows Poppy and Alex, two best friends who have been vacationing together every summer for over a decade. However, as the duo grows older and their lives become more complicated, they end up not speaking for about two years. Then, in an attempt to mend fences, the pair reunite one summer in Palm Springs to hopefully rekindle their bond. Will Alex and Poppy be able to repair their fragile relationship? Or is there just too much history there, forcing the friends to call it quits? Described as both a romantic comedy and a contemporary romance, People We Meet on Vacation is a heart-warming read for romance fans everywhere.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, People We Meet on Vacation will be produced by Sony Pictures in collaboration with Netflix, in a deal that gives Netflix the first look at any films the production company intends to make for streaming. It will be the first of five film adaptations planned for Emily Henry’s popular novels. Other adaptations will include Beach Read, Funny Story, Happy Place, and Book Lovers. Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud & All the Bright Places) will direct the film.
Netflix announced the casting news in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, in which Haley can be seen telling Emily Bader that she got the part of Poppy Wright. Tom Blyth then joins the Zoom call, confirming that he has been cast as Alex Nilson. At the end of the call, Emily Henry herself joins and expresses her excitement for the upcoming adaptation.
She states, “I’m so excited, you guys. I have been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters, and I just truly could not feel any more confident that my readers – and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book – are going to completely, completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex, with you guys playing them.”

Tom Blyth is establishing himself as quite the leading man when it comes to film adaptations. He was most recently seen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the fourth book in The Hunger Games franchise by beloved author Suzanne Collins. Blyth played a younger version of Donald Sutherland’s character, Coriolanus Snow, in the prequel. According to Deadline, Blyth is also set to star in the upcoming adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Emily Bader can be most recently seen in Prime Video’s My Lady Jane, as well as in the indie feature Fresh Kills.
