A lot of Auster’s work, poems, and essays from his 20’s onward has been featured in numerous places such as NPR, and The New York Times. He was also known for a lot of his postmodernist, along with tinges of surrealistic views, which are prominent in places of his work such as City of Glass. There is one scene of surrealism best described when the detective character gets a phone call. (Based off of an actual experience in his life in his 20’s where he thought about giving a different response).

Despite being a literary giant over in Europe and a bestseller in the United States here. He always was someone that connected life to a plethora of what if scenarios, and general relatability to us as humans, throughout his time in literature.
An example being the 2017 novel 4 3 2 1, by using a bunch off crazy scenarios such as a group of four boys going through different walks of life but still being the same through and through. Or even when he would appear for interviews and his essays, he would muse about several other things such as heartbreak, loss, and general walks of life that we as humans do unfortunately live and have lived.
Some of his literary themes are inclusive to ideologies such as coincidence, history, absent parents, and the idea of loss and grief.
Some of his other works, especially in the film world include, The Inner Life of Martin Frost, Lulu on the Bridge and many more. one of his last novels was called Baumgartner.
He will be missed.
