On Wednesday, the Palisades Wildfires spread throughout Lost Angeles County, prompting evacuation orders and warnings. According to Anthony Marrone, the chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the multiple wildfires have damaged over 1,000 structures and tragically claimed two lives. Due to powerful winds hitting northwest Los Angeles, the wildfires saw a massive surge in size, forcing nearly 3,000 Pacific Palisades residents to evacuate.
In response, President Biden approved a major disaster declaration for California, allowing affected individuals to immediately receive access to recovery funds and resources. Alongside Biden, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved a fire management assistance grant on Tuesday, reimbursing California for its firefighting costs.
