Pack-N-Play Recall: Modera Mattresses Pose Risk of Injury or Death

Modera has issued a voluntary recall for around 15,000 of its Pack-N-Play mattresses because of a serious safety issue that could possibly put infants at risk. The problem? These aftermarket crib pads may not fit securely in certain play yards, creating gaps that violate federal safety standards, and those gaps can be deadly.

Modera Pack-N-Play Recall Information

Here’s the concern: when a mattress is too small or has extra padding, it can leave space between the mattress and the play yard’s sides. If a baby’s face ends up trapped in that space, it can block their ability to breathe. This kind of entrapment hazard has been linked to suffocation incidents in similar products, which is why regulators are sounding the alarm.

It is for the Modera Organic Cotton Pack-N-Play Dual-Sided Portable Baby Crib Pad. It was made in multiple colors: white, pink, blue, and gray. It has a two-sided design labeled for infant and toddler use. The dimensions for the product are 38″x 26″x 1.5″. Sale dates for them are between April 2024 and June 2025, with a price between $30 and $44, and they were sold online, including on Amazon. However, per its FAQ site, Amazon sent out the notices to the wrong customers by error. Do not destroy your mattress until you contact the company to confirm you have the recalled mattress.

If you have one, stop using it immediately. The company has stated, “Please note that there have been NO reported incidents with the Modera Baby Pack-N-Play Crib Pad.” This is only for the Modera Organic Cotton Pack-N-Play Dual-Sided Portable Baby Crib Pad.  They are offering a full refund. Please follow the steps for Modera’s recall to receive your money back.

Final Thoughts: Safety First

When you are reading the FAQ for Modera, they use several phrases for what should be the same item.  Please look below for what they are saying is being recalled; it is one product, but they describe it in three different ways.  All of the information is taken directly from their FAQ site. Remember, double-check with Modera before destroying your product.

  • PACK-N-PLAY MATTRESS (38″x26″x1.5″)
  • Organic Cotton Pack N Play Mattress Dual-Sided Portable Baby Crib Pad
  • WHAT PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL

This recall affects the Modera “Pack N Play” Play Yard Mattress. The mattresses have “Modera baby” printed on labels attached to the mattress. The mattresses are dual-sided, with one side labeled “infant” and the other side labeled “toddler.” The dimensions of the mattress are 38 inches long, 26 inches wide, and 1.5 inches thick.

There have been many recalls in the news lately, and this one is a reminder that aftermarket crib and play yard accessories aren’t always a safe bet. Something as simple as small sizing issues can lead to big risks, especially for infants who rely on safe sleep environments. Check that your mattress fits snugly and meets current safety standards. If you have any doubt, stick with manufacturer-approved gear.
