Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four has garnered significant star power to round out the cast. Previously, Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) have all been confirmation to play the four members of Marvel’s First Family. It was only a matter of time before the casting for the villain would have an announcement. Earlier today, the casting for the space-bound Silver Surfer releasing a statement.
Ozark star Julia Garner, known for her Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning portrayal of Ruth Langmore, will be playing Shalla-Bal per a report from the Hollywood Reporter. In the comics, Shalla-Bal is an empress of a utopian planet by creator Norrin Radd- the initial Silver Surfer.
Garner has not fully showcased her acting talents. She has also delved into production highlighting her diverse abilities in the entertainment field. Although she was initially chosen to play Madonna in a biopic that was eventually scrapped, Garner’s commitment to her artistry and skill in taking on demanding roles persist, solidifying her reputation as a standout talent in the realm of Hollywood.
Radd’s last big-screen appearance was in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In the film, the initial Silver Surfer was a dual performance. Actor and contortionist Doug Jones played him physically while John Wick star Lawrence Fishburne provided the voice. Hopefully, Garner’s casting has her playing double duty as both the look and sound of Shalla-Bal saving casting directors and fans alike a headache.
