“Anora” was the big winner last night, taking home five Oscars, including best picture and best director for Sean Baker. The top acting awards went to Adrien Brody, who won best actor for “The Brutalist,” and Mikey Madison, who, in an upset, won best actress for “Anora.” The winner for best supporting actress was Zoe Saldaña “Emilia Pérez” and the best supporting actor trophy went to Kieran Culkin “A “Real Pain.”
“Emilia Pérez” topped the field of nominees with 13 Oscar nominations. It ended the night with only two awards. These snubs could have been related to a series of posts made by Gascón between 2019 and 2021 that were identified as containing bigoted speech In another surprise, Madison bested Demi Moore “The Substance” for the top actress category after Moore had swept that awards at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and Screen Actors Guild ceremonies.
