Olivia Munn & Ms. Rachel: Mama Drama Has People Deleting Parts of An Article
You may have heard about some feathers getting ruffled regarding actress Olivia Munn and Ms. Rachel, a popular children’s entertainer. The two women had (sort of) traded barbs on social media, but most of that hopefully seems to be in the past now. However, People Magazine did pull part of a story, which is extremely rare for the publication. What led up to the backlash over both Olivia’s and Ms. Rachel‘s comments? Let’s take a look at the story.

Olivia Munn has been in the news of late. She is a breast cancer survivor, and she recently married her longtime beau, writer John Mulaney. Olivia has celebrated motherhood twice. She has a boy and a girl, ages three and eight months, respectively. People ran a cover story, entitled I Didn’tKnow How Much Strength I Had on Munn. The story featured Olivia Munn’s career, motherhood, her marriage to Mulaney, and her cancer battle.
Olivia had also made the comment that she was not a fan of a lot of children’s programming. She further stated that she did not let her children watch Ms. Rachel or several other children’s shows. In particular, she had addressed cartoons, stating that there weren’t many shows that made the cut.
Pertaining to Ms. Rachel, Olivia had stated
I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can’t watch it, I’m not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy.
Munn had also brought up the fact that she needed children’s programming to be beneficial, like being pertinent to her own family and child-rearing.
Ms. Rachel’s International Comments
Ms. Rachel had made some comments on Gaza, which her viewers thought was somewhat out of place for children’s programming. Ms. Rachel (full name: Rachel Griffin Accurso) had responded on social media:
I’d rather you cover me advocating for kids in Gaza who are literally starving, largest cohort of child amputees in modern history, thousands & thousands killed — no medical care, no education, no homes… do better!!!
With Middle East tensions being on the rise (and sadly, pretty much tensions all over), Olivia Munn’s comments drew backlash. Munn and her husband, Mulaney, started getting violent threats. Mulaney shared his frustration, saying
This is absolutely insane and needs to stop. The people doing this are so wildly out of line and so unhelpful to any conversation. You took a nothing comment to a dark and dangerous place. This kind of behavior isn’t activism.
People Magazine’s Decision to Revise Article
In response, People Magazine removed the part entitled Olivia Munn Doesn’t Let Her Kids Watch Ms. Rachel. Here’s Why. The outlet commented, “There is no excuse for these abhorrent attacks, and we will always prioritize safety above all else.”
It seems like, for the most part, the controversy has passed. Both Olivia Munn and Ms. Rachel have been in touch, and it looks as though things are smoothed over. This potential squabble goes to show why children’s programming should be fun, conducive to learning, and carefree. The political worries can be left to adults.
