Peter Greene, Actor Known for ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘The Mask’, Dead at 60

Veteran character actor Peter Greene, celebrated for his iconic villain roles in “Pulp Fiction” and “The Mask”, has died at the age of 60. Greene was found unresponsive in his Lower East Side, New York City apartment on Friday, and his longtime manager confirmed his death. Authorities say foul play is not suspected.

Found Dead at Home

According to the New York Post, Greene was “found unresponsive inside his Clinton Street apartment around 3:25 p.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and Gregg Edwards, his manager of more than 10 years.” Police reported no signs of foul play, and the cause of death is pending further examination by the medical examiner. Gregg Edwards, Greene’s manager of over a decade, expressed deep sorrow at the loss, calling him “a terrific guy… Truly one of the great actors of our generation. His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”

Career and Notable Roles

Greene became widely known in the 1990s for portraying intense, often villainous characters. In Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” (1994), he played Zed, a terrifying security guard whose scenes became some of the film’s most memorable. That same year, he portrayed Dorian Tyrell, the violent mob boss in “The Mask” opposite Jim Carrey.

Beyond these roles, his extensive filmography included appearances in “The Usual Suspects”, “Training Day”, “Clean, Shaven”, “Blue Streak”, and “Judgment Night”. Greene also worked in television with credits on shows like “The Black Donnellys” and “Chicago P.D”.

Personal Life and Legacy

According to NBC News, Greene was “born in Montclair, New Jersey, on Oct. 8, 1965. He began acting in his 20s while living in New York City.” Known for his powerful presence on screen, he accrued nearly 95 acting credits over three decades. At the time of his passing, Greene had upcoming projects, including the independent thriller “Mascots” with Mickey Rourke. He is survived by a sister and a brother.
