You Can’t Have a Bigfoot Musical Without Bigfoot! Grey Henson Casted as The Legendary Creature

Who wants to see a Bigfoot musical because I could use a good laugh! In what might be the most chaotic and delightful casting news of the year, the mythical creature is taking the stage Off-Broadway. “BIGFOOT!” is set for a curtain call in 2026, and Grey Henson will be stepping into those massive feet!

One Small Step for Grey Henson, One Big Leap for Bigfoot

The biggest news dropping today is that Tony nominee Grey Henson has been cast as the famous cryptid. The man who stole our hearts (and pink shirts) as Damian in the Mean Girls musical is suiting up to play the world’s most elusive beast of North America. This version of Bigfoot isn’t a bloodthirsty monster; he is described as an “innocent youth” who happens to be eight feet tall and in desperate need of electrolysis. Totally relatable.

Based on his track record, from his standout performance in Shucked to his portrayal of Buddy the Elf, Henson possesses a unique brand of comedic timing that seamlessly blends innocence with chaotic energy. Henson has a knack for playing characters that are larger than life, but playing an actual monster who sings is a massive pivot that came out of nowhere. Seeing BIGFOOT! on the New York City Center Stage 1 is going to be a glowing star on the 2026 theatrical calendar.

SNL Alum and Broadway Vets Rounding Out BIGFOOT! Musical

A Bigfoot musical won’t work if the people performing with the beast aren’t just as funny. Well, the casting directors knocked this one out of the park, collecting a hilarious bunch of characters that will bring the house down.

Alex Moffat, who you definitely miss from his run on “Saturday Night Live,” is stepping into the role of the Mayor. Moffat excels as confident yet incompetent authority figures, so casting him as a politician for a comedic performance fits like a glove.

Joining the actors are powerhouse performers Crystal Lucas-Perry (“Ain’t No Mo’”) as Francine, and Katerina McCrimmon (“Funny Girl”) as Joanne. When you put this group together, you have a mix of sketch comedy precision and Broadway vocal chops that promises to elevate the material from a silly joke to a legitimate theatrical event.

If the premise of “BIGFOOT!” sounds like a late-night TV show plot, well, that’s because the creative team behind the fur has a few ties there. The book and lyrics are penned by the incredible Amber Ruffin (“Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Some Like It Hot”) alongside Kevin Sciretta (“Mystery Science Theater 3000”).

Ruffin has proven she can write biting, hilarious social commentary, while Sciretta’s background in “MST3K” means he knows exactly how to handle B-movie tropes and creature features. Directed and choreographed by Danny Mefford (the genius behind “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Kimberly Akimbo”), this show has a pedigree that screams “cult classic” in the making.

Welcome to Muddirt: A Glow-in-the-Dark Oasis

The premise of the Bigfoot musical alone sells the comedy of this show. The story takes place in the town of Muddirt. It’s a place stuck somewhere between a chemical dump site and a nuclear power plant—essentially a radioactive paradise. It’s a larger-than-life tale of small-town paranoia where our hairy hero becomes a target not because he’s dangerous, but because he’s different (and very, very tall).

It sounds like a satirical look at how society treats outsiders, swimming in a pool of toxic waste jokes and show tunes. The producers, Benson Drive and Manhattan Theatre Club, are clearly betting on audiences wanting an escape that is as weird as it is heartwarming.

Final Thoughts: No Need To Scout For Bigfoot! He’ll Be Off-Broadway

An original musical comedy about a cryptid needing hair removal is a refreshing take when all we see are “safe” adaptations of movies. We’ll be front row to see Grey Henson bring the beloved creature to life, but you have some time to prepare your hiking gear. BIGFOOT! is set for an eight-week engagement, with the previews beginning on February 11, 2026. The official opening night is slated for March 1, 2026.
