Cardi B is teaming up with the mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, to judge the 2-K Jingle Contest. The 2-K Jingle Contest is designed to encourage parents to enroll their two-year-olds in free child care in New York City. In a video released on social media on Friday, April 3, Mayor Mamdani is seen backstage, asking Cardi B to judge the contest and explaining the 2-K program concept.

Mayor Mamdani is using his time in office to help bring universal free childcare and improve the education system in New York. The 2-K program is the next step toward that goal, and what better person to help promote it than New York native and mom of four rapper Cardi B? To promote her sophomore album, Am I the Drama, Cardi B literally hit the streets of New York to interact with fans.

In the video on Mayor Mamdani’s YouTube page, he asks the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, “What does she think about free childcare?” Cardi B’s response was relatable for many working moms. She said, “I feel like free childcare is very important. Sometimes, us women, we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.”

Cardi B will be among a panel of judges that will help pick a winner and narrow the competition down to the top five. Submission is currently open, and New Yorkers have until 11:59 p.m. on April 17. The 2-K jingle should be 15 or 30 seconds long and include details about the 2-K program and its benefits.

According to the website nyc.gov, the 2-K jingle must have original lyrics, no profanity or offensive language, and contestants must be at least 18 years old and live in New York.

2-K Program Brings Parent Relief

The 2-K program is similar to pre-K for three- and four-year-olds but is designed for 2-year-olds. The program’s curriculum has not yet been revealed, but 2000 lucky students in the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn will have a chance to experience universal childcare. For parents interested in enrolling their children in the 2-K program, enrollment will begin on June 2 and continue through June 26.

According to the New York Daily News, New York City Mayor Mamdani’s statement on why free childcare is important, and the impact 2-K will have on New York, is,

“As Cardi B says: ‘I can get ’em both. I don’t wanna choose,'” Mamdani said in a statement. “With universal childcare, New Yorkers won’t have to. For too long, families have been forced to choose between affordable care and staying in the city they love. Now, they can have both — free care in the greatest city in the world.”

Cardi B Wins Over NYC Families

Despite the “WAP” rapper having explicit lyrics and currently on tour with sets that include pole dancing, twerking, and seductive chair dancing, news of the rapper judging a contest to promote children’s education is getting positive responses on social media.

Under the YouTube video of Mamdani asking Cardi B to judge the contest, fans are noting the duo’s chemistry and acknowledging the good they will do for the community together. One fan wrote, “Cardi B and the Z-man! This is going to help families. Too bad there are so few seats, but 2000 is better than none.”
