Fans Rejoice Over Latest News Revealing “Frieren” Season 3 Update

The epic journey continues in Fall 2027 as “Frieren” Season 3 has been confirmed.

Fans who were initially bummed to hear that when Season 2 of “Frieren: Beyond the Journey’s End” began on January 16th, 2026, it would only run for a total of ten episodes before the finale on March 29th, 2026, were greeted with good news recently.

Following the conclusion of season 2, both the official website and the X accounts for one of the biggest hits in the anime world recently confirmed that “Frieren” Season 3 is in production. Airing in October 2027, the newest season will adapt one of the most beloved arcs within the source material, The Golden Land Arc.

With production already underway, Studio Madhouse will continue to produce and animate the hit series, and a key visual has been released to commemorate the start of production.

Season 2’s 10-Episode Count is a Win for the Series with “Frieren” Season 3 on the Horizon

While the shorter season certainly came as a surprise to fans, given season 1’s 28-episode count, the decision illustrates that the studio has prioritized quality and a steady production schedule over an oversaturated season 2 with poor pacing. With “Frieren’s” growing popularity, it would have been no surprise to see Season match the episode count of its predecessor, but that wasn’t the case this time.

Similar to how “My Hero Academia” broke its epic second war arc into two seasons to ensure both received the highest quality of animation they could muster, Studio Madhouse looks to do the same with one of Frieren’s most celebrated arcs.

Though the wait until late 2027 for “Frieren” Season 3 may sadden some fans, it gives the staff, including directors Keiichiro Saito and Tomoya Kitagawa, more breathing room amid the ever-shortening gap between the anime and manga—a gap that is only narrowing due to the manga’s recent hiatus, according to Comic Book.

Why is the Golden Land Arc Such a Big Deal?

With the party continuing their travels deeper into the Northern Plateau, the danger will hit its peak as they encounter their most dangerous foe yet. After two seasons that gave the audience increasing insight into how demons think and operate, “Frieren” Season 3 will delve deeper into the history of the Demon Sages, Frieren’s most formidable enemies.

Known as one of the most narratively ambitious arcs, the upcoming season will focus on Frieren and her party confronting the last of the last surviving Sage of Destruction, Macht of El Dorado. Between the battle, with Aura back in season 1 and the flashbacks revolving around the Hero of the South in Season 2, the story has made it clear how formidable the Sages of Destruction are. Season 3 will look to scale that notch up even higher as the party tackles the one regarded as the strongest amongst the sages.

Though praised for its slower pacing and character moments, the show appears poised to take on more action, resembling the second half of season 1, in its upcoming adventure.

The official description for the show from IMDB is the following:

“Elf mage Frieren and her fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. But Frieren will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to understand what life means to the people around her?”

Frieren fans will certainly be in for a treat as the party continues its journey in October 2027. Until then, fans can enjoy every episode of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” Season 2, which is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
