The new Fantastic Four Trailer just dropped, and it is epic! To say we’re excited would be understating the emotion. Between seeing Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, a gender swapped Silver Surfer, and the shadow of Galactus, we’re only disappointed that we must wait until July. Read on!
Silver Surfer
There are so many moments to pick apart in this Fantastic Four trailer. Let’s talk about Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer (Shalla-Bal). She’s statuesque, standing on that board hovering above the heroes. She asks, “Are you the protectors of this world?” When Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) says yes, Silver Surfer replies, “Your planet is marked for death.” She’s so cold and emotionless. The effects are perfect. And, of course, being marked for death isn’t a surprise. This is the Fantastic Four, and we’d expect nothing less.
Key Moments From The Fantastic Four Trailer
We’re handed quite a few key pieces of information in small bits of dialogue and imagery throughout this Fantastic Four trailer. We spotted some, but we’ll watch it a few more times because July is so far away.
We learn right away that the world already knows the backstory of these heroes. So this isn’t the origin story. Thank goodness for that. We know what happened, so a recap is fine. We also learn, through a comedic family dinner, that Sue is pregnant. Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) is surprised at first and tells Reed, “You are out of your depth.” We love a bit of foreshadowing. They are all going to be out of their depth.
We see a more intimate scene with Sue and Reed where she says, “We can do this. Nothing’s going to change.” Oh. We know everything is about to change, Sue Storm.
After the Silver Surfer appears and, we can assume, all heck is breaking loose, we see Reed saying, “It’s my fault. I stretched the bounds of space. And they heard.” What does this mean, exactly? We certainly hope we’re going to find out. And, to add some more tension, another Reed quote, “There’s not enough time.”
The Fantastic Four trailer is also showing us that a key theme is family. We love this quote from Sue Storm, “We will face this together. We will fight it together. As a family.”
And, these are the heroes of the Earth. Sue also says, “It has to be us.” And Reed tells the world, “We will protect you.” He sounds so certain, and we’re gathering he’s ready to do anything to protect the world. They’re risking it all.
We also see the Four in space suits, so it looks like they’ll travel into space. And we did see that shadow of Galactus. What a tease!
Final Thoughts
As a final comment, it’s so refreshing to see actors who look a bit more mature in the Fantastic Four trailer. Pedro Pascal is 50, and Vanessa Kirby is 36. They look amazing as a couple, and we’re thrilled. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm) is 48, leaving Joseph Quinn as the youngest at 31.
We’re marking our calendars for July 25. The theaters should be full that weekend. This summer may be Fantastic for movies. Yep, we went there.
