Have you ever gone to a shoe store with the intention of buying one brand of shoe and come out with something completely different? This tends to happen when encountering that persuasive salesperson who tries to talk you into anything but what you are interested in. Let’s face it we have all dealt with this, but the debate continues regarding comfort.
Which brand is more comfortable; Skechers or New Balance? And why? New Balance the brand that was an iconic symbol of the late 90s and early 2000s is known for its plush yet durable design and provides extra support for those with flat feet or fallen arches.
This shoe brand also tends to offer more space in the toe box area which is beneficial for those with bunions or hammer toes. While Skechers, introduced in 1992, was thought to have an edgy yet breathable look where fashion met comfort.
What the Experts have to say About New Balance

But let us see what the experts have to say about New Balance. According to podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons everywhere you should consider what the brand was originally designed to do when making your choice and ask yourself what you will be using them for such as exercising, biking, and high-intensity workouts because believe it or not this does have an impact on how comfortable the shoe will be.
Additional considerations should include figuring out whether the brand offers multiple width sizes from narrow to wide to extra wide and consider your foot type. Do you have flat feet, overpronate, or have high arches? If so, New Balance is the right shoe for you.
In fact, experts have tested over 12 different designs of New Balance shoes over a 55-hour period while walking and running on asphalt, concrete, and treadmills with a steep incline all of which passed the test receiving an A+ all around for comfort, fit, responsiveness, cushion, and stability. Ranging anywhere from $75 to $150 USD you get the most bang for your buck with New Balance according to the experts.
You would think it would be impossible to argue with those experts, right? Well, think again because there are a lot of consumers who feel Skechers fit this standard. But what is the reason that consumers feel this way and why?
How do Skechers Compare to New Balance According to the Experts?

Style meets comfort that is what most people think of when they envision Skechers shoes, but what do they offer that New Balance does not? Much like New Balance Skechers has a loyal community of avid buyers and not to mention the company has made many improvements over the past decade to compete with its market rivals. Over a 30-year period The Skechers company has definitely had time to make improvements to their comfort system.
They are trendy and have styles and comfort technologies to fit all ages and sizes of feet. Perhaps the most beneficial of these technologies includes air cool memory foam that not only cushions the foot but offers support all day long no matter if you’re working or just simply wearing them as an everyday shoe.
However, arch fit technology which is podiatrist-approved and certified includes removable insoles, extra support, and cushion that New Balance does not.
Why New Balance Wins the Debate

Additionally, there is a category of Relaxed Fit Skechers that gives a roomier feel, especially for those suffering from bunions or hammer toes, and also includes memory foam insoles for all-day comfort.
The one that has caught the most attention especially as of recent is Skech-Air because it gives you the sensation of walking on a cloud and putting a little extra pep in your step. That’s something we could all use but if you ask me, but based on expert opinion and the level of technologies that both brands have to offer it seems as though New Balance is the winner.
Though they were thoroughly tested by orthopedic surgeons and podiatrists themselves, therefore, the recommendation is solid and because we know that this shoe brand has gone through a series of tests and that all 12 styles were tested you would obviously feel more comfortable purchasing New Balance over Skechers.
Take it from somebody who knows as I worked in a restaurant for six years and the brand of shoes that our boss required us to have was Skechers at Work which were deemed as having the latest in comfort cushion technology.
I did not find this to be the case standing on my feet for 4 hours a night was unbearable my feet were sore they were tired, and they definitely did not hold up to the challenge of being the most comfortable work shoe available. So, you be the judge.
