Netflix finally reveals the return of the highly-acclaimed Korean original series “Gyeongseong Creature” season 2. “Gyeongseong Creature” is a historical suspense mystery horror series written by Kang Eun-Kyung. Chung Dong-Yoon and Roh Young-sub directed its first season, set in 1945, during the Japanese colonial occupation of Korea when the city was known as Gyeongseong.
Season 1
Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature Season 1 is set in 1945, in Gyeongseong, during the Japanese occupation of Korea. The city’s most lucrative pawnshop master, Jang Tae-Sang, combines forces with a tracker, Yoon Chae-ok, who is searching for her missing mother. Everything leads them to Ongseong Hospital. Tae-sang uses his network to access the hospital, wherein they discover dozens of Joseon people trapped in a basement ward and a terrifying creature who breathes deadly anthrax spores.
Where They Left Off
The deadly creature resulted from an experiment by the military scientist in charge of Ongseong Hospital. It was formed when a worm enters the subject’s brain and causes them to mutate into monsters. The monster turns out to be Seishin, Chae-ok’s mother. In season 1’s final moments, during the lab’s destruction, Chae-ok is pierced by her mother’s monster tentacles, confesses her love for Tae-sang, and seemingly dies. That is until one of those little parasitic brain worms swims inside Chae-ok’s body, her eye opens, and, BOOM, Season 2 Baby!
Netflix Teases New Trailer
In their article, Netflix revealed that Season 2 is set in modern Seoul, 2024, against the dark, tragic backdrop of Gyeongseong in 1945. It promises deeper character arcs and promises to reveal the happenings and connections in Gyeongseong to those of current Seoul. The story will follow Tae-sang, a character who resembles Ho-Jae, and Chae-Ok, who survived the explosion in Gyeongseong. The teaser trailer, released on YouTube by Netflix, shows Chae-ok disoriented and discovering that her version of hell isn’t over.
Caston the Netflix Series
Park Seo-jun returns with a new character, Ho-Jae, who resembles the prominent pawnshop owner Jang Tae-Sang. This sparks curiosity about his true identity and connection to Gyeongseong. Han So-Hee reprises her role as Chae-ok, questioning how she survived the finale and wondering what trials she faced over time. New characters are involved in Season 2’s tapestry, such as Captain Kuroko, who leads a team of elite agents on a covert mission. Seung-jo, played by Bae Hyun-sung, will play a key role in the unfolding mysterious events surrounding Ho-Jae and Chae-Ok.
A Fight to End it All
Netflix revealed the new posters for Gyeongseong Creature 2, followed by the release of its highly-anticipated teaser on YouTube. There’s no long wait, as the series is set to premiere on the streaming service on September 27, 2024. Director Chung Dong-Yoon reveals that Season 2 presents the story with a completely different charm from Season 1, 1945. The change in space and time will provide a clear distinction, offering an expanded universe to end with a fight that ends it all.
