Netflix has announced that Beyoncé will perform in her hometown during the Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texas football game. So, what’s the hype about? The pop singer’s performance will take place on Christmas day at NRG Stadium, making it the greatest gift ever for fans everywhere.
Netflix Historic Christmas Present
On December 25th, Netflix will make the historic debut of its first-ever broadcast of NFL gameday. The streaming service will broadcast the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game and the AFC Division Round rematch of, Ravens vs. Texans afterward. Officially, this doubleheader will start with the Chiefs and Steelers game at 1 p.m. Eastern, and then the Ravens vs. Texans game at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. What’s more? Each game can still be watched on broadcast TV in each competing team’s local market. Likewise, individuals with NFL+ can watch these games on their mobile devices too.
For subscribers, Netflix gives them the Christmas gift of making both football games and the highly-anticipated Beyoncé half-try show free. Indeed, individuals who subscribe to the streaming platform will get this content without an additional cost. So far, this seems to be a good idea, especially after the technical issues during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. Viewers were not only left disappointed in the boxing match itself but also in the stream. Unfortunately, many views struggled with freezing and buffering issues during the steam, causing frustration and uproad.
The Netflix Apology
As a response to the public outrage, Netflix addressed the widespread complaints surrounding the poor-quality live streams and technical issues. Furthermore, Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s CTO, released a statement explaining the technical challenges throughout the boxing event, specifically during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. Additionally, she explained how her team managed the problem by prioritizing stream stability for viewers.
Throughout the undercard, fans in over 190 countries experienced numerous technical problems, such as buffering, audio issues, and poor image quality. On Friday, 10:35 p.m., New York time, over 80,000 subscribers reported these problems and yet, it did little to slow Netfix’s success. In fact, they would claim to still reach up to 65 million viewers at their highest point.
Technical Troubles
Before the boxing event, Netflix had promised over 280 million subscribers four hours of an uninterrupted and fun live broadcast. Sadly, technical issues caused frequent freezing and buffering issues throughout the event, leading viewers to flood the streamer’s social media accounts with outrage and complaints. Even before the streaming issues, early technical glitches affected the event such as Jerry Jones’ and Evander Holyfield’s malfunctioning earpieces and microphones during interviews.
Despite these technical issues, Netflix aims to bounce and gain back their subscriber’s trust and money by offering this NFL gameday and a thrilling half-time show from the iconic, Beyoncé. Although live-streaming NFL games is their first, they have shows centered on football or alternative sports that can promote and also be promoted. Previously, the platform was heavily focused on sports documentaries, such as the NFL docuseries Quarterback.
Final Thoughts
With her latest album, Beyoncé has officially made Grammy history as the most nominated artist of all time with 99 total nominations. In 2025, Beyoncé received 11 nominations for her album, Cowboy Carter, and its singles broke her tie with iconic rapper and husband, Jay Z, with 88. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, the singer was nominated for the individual, Album and Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for her song, Texas Hold’em. Although details are limited, it’s safe to assume that Beyoncé is also preparing a Christmas to remember for years, even decades, to come.
