Heartstopper has quickly become one of the most beloved and popular coming-of-age shows that Netflix has to offer. For three seasons now, fans have been eating up the love story between Charlie and Nick, along with the trials and tribulations they have to face themselves and with their friends. Since the third season of Heartstopper came to an end, fans have been impatiently waiting for the next season to come out. Unfortunately for fans, Netflix has announced that the show is coming to an end, and while fans might be sad to hear this, Netflix is promising to end it with a treat.
Heartstopper Comes To An End
Heartstopper is a British coming-of-age Netflix series that is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. Following the story of Charlie Spring and how he falls for his classmate Nick Nelson. The series received plenty of critical acclaim, especially for the portrayal of LGBTQ people. The hit series currently has three seasons on Netflix, and fans have been patiently waiting to find out what’s next for their favorite characters.
As the actors age, things get a little dicey since they are supposed to be playing teenagers, so a decision about the show’s fate had to be made. Kit Connor, who plays Nick Nelson, even expressed how he was concerned about his age and playing a teenager, according to E! News. He also didn’t want it to seem like they were just making the show just to make it, and that he wanted it to be more meaningful than that.
As a result, Netflix made the big announcement that the third season of Heartstopper is going to be the last season. Fans don’t have to worry, though; Netflix certainly won’t be leaving us hanging.
Netflix Promises A Twist
Even though there won’t be a fourth season of Heartstopper, the show will have the conclusion that it deserves: a feature film. Kit Connor, who plays Nick, and Joe Locke, who plays Charlie Spring, will be executive producers on the movie. Alice Oseman, who wrote the Heartstopper graphic novel, will also write the script for the movie.
According to Netflix, the movie will pick up right after the finale of season 3 and will follow Nick, Charlie, and their friends as they continue to mature and experience their lives. We will see the conclusion of Nick and Charlie’s story, as Nick prepares to go to University and they have to take their relationship long-distance.
Our beloved characters are going to get the ending that they deserve, and we get to see it come to fruition. Alice Oseman is especially excited that she gets to conclude the story that she created for everyone. She said, “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
Heartstopper fans should be excited that they’re not being left hanging, and they finally get the ending they deserve, along with Nick and Charlie, but this time, a full-length movie. Filming for the movie starts this summer!
