Fans of KPop boy band NCT and the whole KPop community have been buzzing since it was reported that Tae-il is now a former member. He is also involved in a sexual abuse case, and SM Entertainment has finally released an official statement.

It hasn’t even been a year since the NCT member resumed his activities. Tae-il had to halt his presence in group activities after he was diagnosed with a fractured right thigh after a motorcycle accident in August 2023. He stopped all his schedules and focused on treatment and recovery after his surgery. Here are the details as told today.

Sports Khan narrates that the former NCT member only resumed his activities in February of this year after participating in the OST “Blue” for the TV drama series “Captivating the King.” Since then, his interactions with fans have been through his album activities and YouTube web variety. Though he was part of NCT 127’s latest comeback, he could not join the stage; instead, he participated in promotional activities to appease fans.

His Words of Gratitude Melted Hearts

At the time, Tae-il stated that he couldn’t join the stage and his members due to the lasting effects of his accident. His interactions with fans and members were filled with preciousness and gratitude, as expressed by E Daily, and thought of as genuine.  He repeatedly told NCTzens, their fanbase, that he hoped to spend this time together for a long time. His personality was often described as warm, cuddly, caring and kind.

SM Entertainment Releases Official Statement

On August 28, 2024, people were shocked after NCT’s label, SM Entertainment, took to social media and their website to confirm the reports that Tae-il was recently sued for committing a sexual offense, Sports Seoul reported.  SM Entertainment is also involved in the investigation, confirming that once they realized the severity of the case, they unanimously decided that Tae-il could no longer participate in group activities.

Departure from NCT

After a lengthy discussion, Tae-il decided to leave the group for good. The agency apologized for the controversy he caused and will provide additional information as the case progresses. SM Entertainment also confirmed that Tae-il is cooperating with the investigation.

Conclusion

The reaction to SM Entertainment’s announcement and the subsequent reports shocked the K-Pop community. Tae-il debuted in 2016 through NCT’s unit, NCT U. He then debuted with NCT’s subsidiary group, NCT 127, and was active until his accident.  His actions and involvement in a sexual crime have soured his social media presence trending on X, formerly Twitter, with over 500,000 tweets under the Music category on an international scale. His former co-NCT members have also disengaged and unfollowed his official account on Instagram.
