The definition of a hero is a person who is to be admired and idealized for their courage, selflessness, achievements, or nobility. Who in or around your life has impacted you positively enough that you’ve touted them as a hero? Surely, there’s someone, though you may not immediately realize it. Think about it for a second. Is there anyone who comes to mind? It can be a friend, family member, co-worker, or activist. There’s no right or wrong answer.
The most important thing is that your life was impacted positively. You could’ve experienced something like a pep talk or watching someone overcome difficulties, but what’s important is that you learned something from it. That’s what this poem is all about—understanding and appreciating the beauty in something as simple as spoken words or actions.
Heroes come in all forms
But mine is the best one of all
My first love and the one dearest to my heart
Who has given me the wisdom and guidance to keep myself in check
Even when I felt like everything around me was falling apart
My hero knew just what to do to help me right from the start
He’s given me tough love when I’ve needed it, even though I didn’t understand
And now he has the happiness of knowing he guided me correctly in the palm of his hand
I watch him go through his own struggles and wonder how he copes
He never bats an eye and never complains or bellows
For he remains strong and carries on through life
There’s never a worry about tomorrow or dealing with any strife
The courage, the strength, and the willingness he has to keep on going
Are remarkable, admirable, and ever-growing
It’s amazing to watch and inspiring to see
My Father, my hero, thank you for always being there for me.
Final Thoughts
This poem is dedicated to my amazingly strong Father, who, despite having ongoing health issues, has always been selfless. It’s truly incredible to witness his strength and how he never wavers, no matter how hard things become. He truly inspires many around him, and though he might not be what some consider a typical hero. He’s far more significant than any you can read about in a book or see in a movie. I love you, Dad!
