The Making of a Star

While YEONJUN is an incredible solo star, he originally found fame with the boy group TOMORROW X TOGETHER. The group debuted in 2019 and has had a growing fanbase ever since. In 2019, TxT was often considered like little brothers to the K-Pop giants known as BTS, as the groups are signed to the same label. However, over the past five years, TxT has made its unique identity prominent. Each of the five members has a charismatic personality that fans can resonate with, leading to the band’s fanbase, which they call MOA (moments of alwaysness), becoming a massive force in the K-Pop community.
YEONJUN’s role in TxT was mostly that of a rapper. However, he has showcased his vocal ability in many songs alongside his impressive dance moves. In several of the band’s featured singles, YEONJUN has been a strong visual for the videos, often seen wearing bright colors and maximalist fashion. He has also been described as a perfectionist with tons of drive and ambition, and his popularity is proof. YEONJUN has been a fan favorite since TxT’s inception due to his hard work and phenomenal performance on stage.
About the New Single
The idea for “GGUM” came to YEONJUN while he was chewing gum in his car. He described the confidence and swagger he felt while chewing gum and how he thought that vibe would work well in a song. Only a K-pop idol could make something as simple as chewing gum into a fierce pop anthem. It’s clear it works, but why do a solo project in the first place if TxT is so successful? This project is a long time coming, with YEONJUN discussing it with his team during TxT’s US tour in June 2024. The young idol says he’s always looking to expand his artistry, and a solo project was built from that idea.
The music video for “GGUM” is an intense, wild ride full of powerful visuals and choreography. It takes inspiration from classic K-pop boy group tropes, giving YEONJUN that ‘bad boy’ aesthetic taken to the next level. The style of this video is much darker than TxT’s typical bubbly boy band fare, with several obscene gestures and words censored on YouTube. It’s interesting to note how different 4th Wave K-Pop is from its predecessors. Many of us remember a time when an idol couldn’t be caught dead using adult language, but YEONJUN uses his rebellious persona to his advantage.
What Comes Next
It’s clear from today’s statistics that MOA are crazy for this new type of content coming from YEONJUN. Followers of TxT are showering the idol with support and are already looking forward to his next record. Thankfully, YEONJUN isn’t ready to stop any time soon. He says he wants to keep challenging himself and pushing his musical boundaries. Does that mean we can expect another solo track from him soon? Furthermore, could we see solo tracks from Soobin, Taehyun, Beomgyu, and Heuningkai alongside their bandmate? Only time will tell, but we’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest from YEONJUN and TxT!
