Is Rock’n’Roll dead? Well, it’s debatable. But one thing’s for sure, if it’s dead then people keep digging it up from its grave, and if it’s alive then people keep celebrating it. That applies to many bands and artists, especially The Doors. You can go back and forth but music nowadays isn’t the same as it used to be. Who are The Doors?

The band is made up of (from left to right) John Densmore, drums; Jim Morrison, lead vocals; Ray Manzarek, keyboards; and Robby Krieger, guitar. The band took its name from a book titled The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley, where Morrison got inspired by a quote: “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is: infinite.”
The band was formed when Morrison and Manzarek met at UCLA while studying film, and then again later on Venice Beach. After Morrison shared some of his writing, he and Manzarek decided to start the band. Krieger and Densmore were previously playing in another band until they joined Morrison and Manzarek later to form The Doors.
How The Doors Broke on Through to the Other Side of Fame
Their trip wasn’t long. However, it was a fruitful, far from conventional one as they were able to produce 6 albums in 5 years before Jim Morrison tragically died and joined the 27 club. They produced 3 other albums after his passing but it wasn’t the same as when Morrison was around. They opened the doors to their fame with their most famous single Light My Fire from their first self-titled album, The Doors.
What made them stand out was that they were different even from other bands in the ’60s. They neither fit into the surf music scene nor the folk-rock one. They were more influenced by jazz. Their psychedelic and bluesy fingerprint also made them shine amidst many other bands. In addition, the studio versions of their songs are fun and games, but their live versions? How I picture heaven to be.
Their live performances were a world of their own. Morrison’s rebellious persona, controversial lyrics, and unapologetic attitude challenged societal norms. It added to their charisma and enigma. It is worthy to mention that they never played at Monterey or Woodstock, the two giant music festivals of the ’60s. “The Doors were involved in performance art at a time when people were not using that term,” author and critic Greil Marcus noted about their concerts. How The Doors Still Live On
First of all, Jim Morrison. From his poetic and challenging lyrics and poetry, which the others also contribute to, to his enigmatic, charismatic, and sometimes chaotic presence, you just can’t resist it all! Secondly, their music was diverse, as they had multiple influences and that reflects on the following generations that they influenced. Finally, they made universal music that is still relevant to this day, which makes their legacy live on despite their relatively short history.
