Though fall is quickly approaching, the top 3 songs on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 still have us in the heart of the summer. Country and pop are in heavy rotation. All upbeat, forget-about-your-worries type of hits. This week’s chart-toppers are diverse artists. Two, having a break-out year. While a fan favorite, and versatile artist continues his winning streak.
Talent, an interesting background, and the ability to command a room is the perfect recipe for superstardom. Like a domino effect, if you have these qualities, social media hype and popularity will immediately follow. 2024 was surely the year of firsts for established artists. Hozier landed at no. 1 for the first time with ‘Too Sweet.’ ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyonce’ became the first Country No. 1 song by a Black artist. And new and familiar voices followed suit.

1. Shaboozey – ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’
The country dance anthem is catchy, with a soulful undertone, and lands at number 1 this week on the Billboards. The tune was the second number 1 hit by a Black Country artist, only behind Beyonce’. Before Shaboozey lit up the Billboard Hot 100, he was featured on Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter‘s – ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin’ and ‘Spaghetti.’ However, the artist first arrived on the music scene in 2018 with his first album, Lady Wrangler, later teaming up with Duckworth to deliver ‘Start a Riot’ for the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
2. Post Malone and Morgan Wallen – ‘I Had Some Help’
One the best duos of the 2020s. Post Malone shows us why he’s one the most versatile artists of this generation. The melodic rap star turned pock/rock star can now add a country hit under his belt. With some help from country star Morgan Wallen, the breakup song has been described as “charismatic” and infused with folk and pop. ‘I Had Some Help’ became Post Malone’s second collab and second No. 1 hit in 2024 on Billboard.
3. Sabrina Carpenter – ‘Expresso’
The pop star caused quite a commotion weeks ago as she challenged rap star Travis Scott for the number 1 spot. But as promised, Sabrina delivered and was indeed labelled the victor. The newest it girl is having quite a year. Her debut album, Short n’ Sweet, sold over 360,000 equivalent units. The third largest sales week in the US, according to Billboard.
The beloved singer’s year has proven to be consistently fruitful. Sabrina’s ‘Expresso’ was released five months ago, yet the video is still trending with over 170 million views and counting. It was inevitable that she took home the VMA for Song of the Year. 2024 belongs to Sabrina and the Carpenters.
