Tenacious D Drops Trailer for Complete Masterworks Vol. 3
Tenacious D’s Complete Masterworks Vol. 3 is here to remind us that “The Greatest Band in the World” Tenacious D, is still, well, the greatest. This is even if they dabble in unapologetic chaos. Fair warning, this isn’t just another Blu-ray/DVD release; this is a full-on rock-comedy explosion packed with enough power chords and hilarity to melt your face off. And, oh yeah, there’s a mini-poster too (because why not?).
Tenacious D: A Masterwork Worthy of Legends
Recorded during their 2023 Spicy Meatball Tour (yes, that’s its real name) at London’s O2 Arena, this release serves up everything you’d expect from Tenacious D. This contains their hits like “Tribute,” “The Metal,” and “Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown),” packaged into the live concert that’s about the equivalent of a fever dream. Seriously, Jack Black and Kyle Gass didn’t hold back, as if they were living out their own ridiculous parody of rock gods (and pulling it off with intensive flair).
Wait, There’s More?
Oh, you thought this was just a concert? Think again. Included in the package is “Post-Apocalypto,” a gloriously bizarre animated feature with Jack Black’s doodles and the band’s music that somehow makes the apocalypse funny. It’s weird and sometimes wonderful, and yep, it’s very Tenacious D. Now who doesn’t love that?
Not weird enough for you? How about their Britney Spears cover “…Baby One More Time”? That was from Kung Fu Panda 4. Or Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game”? How does it stand up to HIM’s cover? Yeah, Tenacious D doesn’t play by the rules, and frankly, that’s what we love about them.
Why Should You Care?
Here’s the deal: this isn’t just nostalgia bait; it’s the band distilled to its unfiltered essence, proving (again) why Tenacious D has a devoted following willing to laugh even at jokes about Sax-a-booms while cranking the volume to eleven. This is also an effort for Tenacious D to put Kyle Gass’s gaffe behind them. For those who haven’t heard – or don’t (blissfully) remember, Gass made a snarky and derogatory remark about President Trump’s attempted assassination in 2024.
