Leading the MTV VMAs nominations with 12, Lady Gaga emerged as the night’s biggest winner with four Moon Persons—most notably Artist of the Year, plus the Best Collaboration trophy alongside Bruno Mars for “Die With a Smile.” Her victories cemented her as the most awarded artist of the evening.

2. Big Wins for Pop Royalty

Ariana Grande blazed brightly at the MTV VMAs, earning both Video of the Year and Best Pop for “Brighter Days Ahead”—a visually powerful and sonically uplifting film that felt like a promise of brighter things to come.  Sabrina Carpenter proved she’s not just popping but reigning universal pop—she snagged Best Pop Artist, Album of the Year for Short n’ Sweet, and Best Visual Effects for “Manchild,” all while using the platform to deliver a rain-soaked performance that championed trans rights and unapologetic authenticity.

Alex Warren was crowned Best New Artist, cementing his place in a new generation with a sound that blends vulnerability and viral charisma. Song of the Year went to ROSÉ & Bruno Mars for their infectious hit “APT.”, marking a milestone moment as ROSÉ became the first K-pop artist ever to win in this category at the MTV VMAs.  Tate McRae landed Song of the Summer and Best Editing for “Just Keep Watching,” channeling energy and precision in both the track and its stunning visual treatment.

4. Genre-Bending & Global Representation

The MTV VMAs ceremony underscored their global reach and genre diversity:

  • Coldplay won Best Rock, Shakira took Best Latin, and Tyla claimed Best Afrobeats for “Push 2 Start”.

  • Doechii emerged victorious in Best Hip-Hop with “Anxiety” and also earned a technical award for Best Choreography.
