Lola Young Wins Grammy For Best Pop Solo Performance

British singer Lola Young has won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2026 Grammys for her single “Messy.” She beat out fellow nominees Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, Chappell Roan, and Lady Gaga.

The 25-year-old Young was nominated for her first two Grammy Awards this year. Her win for “Messy” is her first win in the United States after winning an Ivor Novello Award and an ASCAP London Music Award back home in London last year. She was also nominated in the Best New Artist category.

About “Messy”

Young’s “Messy” topped the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay, Pop Airplay, and Rock & Alternative Airplay charts, and it peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a huge international hit, as well. The song topped the charts in 15 countries (including back home in the UK) and landed in the Top 10 on a jaw-dropping 58 charts across the globe. “Messy” was certified double-platinum in the United States and topped platinum status in 14 more countries, as well. It was also nominated for an MTV Video Music Award and a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award last year.

People first took notice of “Messy” on TikTok, and it eventually went viral. The song spent four weeks atop the UK Singles chart. Ironically, Young was unable to fully enjoy the success of “Messy,” as she was cleaning up her life in rehab at the time. This may not be the end of the awards that Young wins for the song. She is also nominated for five Brit Awards later this month, including Song of the Year for “Messy.”

The success of “Messy” pushed Young’s third album, I’m Only F**king Myself, up the charts. The album became her first to crack the Top Ten, landing at #3 at home on the UK Albums chart and in the Top Ten in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Scotland, as well.

About Lola Young

Young started writing songs at age 11. She began performing at open mic nights at age 14, and she won the under-16 category of the Open Mic UK singing competition in 2016 at the age of 15. At 17, Young was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. She released her debut single, “6 Feet Under,” on Island Records in 2019, and her first EP, Intro, later that year. After releasing EPs again in 2020 and 2021, Young finally released full-length studio albums in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Sadly, the singer relapsed and dealt with health issues off and on through 2025 and was forced to cancel or cut short multiple performances. Thankfully, she has started 2026 on a positive note with a Grammy win.
