The rock band KoRn is working on a new album. According to lead guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, it will be a return to their heavy-guitar roots. Welch co-founded the band in 1993. In an interview with the student-managed New Jersey radio station WSOU 89.5 FM, he spoke about the band’s progress. The album will follow 2022’s requiem and, in the words of Welch, be some of the best music they have made in years.
KoRn Reveals New Album

“Well, I’ll just say, yes, we are passionately and intensely working on new music.” He stated. We’re a little bit behind. We’ve been really digging deep into sounds and tones and miking techniques and just really focusing on every aspect of just the miking and the sonic levels of everything because I love the last few records we’ve done in the last ten years, but I think — I just have something in me that thinks we could beat the tones.”
KoRn is more serious:
“I love the songs that we’ve done, but tone-wise I feel like we can beat it. So we’re spending a lot more time on this new music, we’re spending a lot more money [chuckles], and we don’t have any record label involved, so it’s all coming from us. And we really want to dissect our sound and remember where we came from and how we did it back then.”
He comments on their innovative leaps:
“And having a vintage KoRn feel with a modern twist — sonically, I’m talking about. So it’s very intense. The songs are amazing. I’m very proud of it. I feel like we are closer than we’ve ever been in the studio. And Jonathan has been there every day.”
He believes it is the best music they have made in years:
“I think it’s the best and heaviest KoRn stuff in years. And I think it’s gonna be raw and just kind of more basic, as far as sound and recording and everything. I don’t wanna give it all away, but we’re just very, very pleased with where we’re at right now.”
Bassist “Fieldy” Is Still Doing What He Needs To
There is minimal information regarding the return of bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu. He fingered the bass on Requiem but needed a hiatus to reform himself. In a letter to his fans in June 2021, he explained he decided to reform after “falling back (on) bad habits,” which have “caused some tension with the people around me.”
Arvizu did not specify the nature of these bad habits. He has a history of addiction, information he revealed in his memoir “Got the Life: My Journey of Addiction, Faith, recovery and KoRn.” Requiem features his signature hip-hop-inspired metal bass lines. He will undoubtedly be missed and deserves a healthy and stable life like anyone else.
The band has been private about when this so-called new music album will be released or any more specific details. Welch commented on their secrecy during an appearance on “The Joe Kingdom Podcast: “Yeah, (there is) new music coming out next year. I don’t know. We’re just kind of in hiding right now, just doing our own thing.”
