Legendary KISS bassist Gene Simmons was released from the hospital earlier this week and is recovering at home after a car accident on Tuesday. The rock icon appears to be okay after the incident and seems to be in good humor. KISS has some big events on the horizon, so hopefully, Simmons will be back at full strength in time to take part. Here are the details.
Car Accident In Malibu
According to police, Simmons was driving his Lincoln Navigator SUV on the Pacific Coast Highway when he fainted or passed out. His vehicle crossed several lanes of traffic before colliding with a parked car. Simmons was taken to the hospital by the L.A. County Fire Department. He was apparently released later the same day. Simmons’ wife, Shannon Tweed, said that her husband, who suffers from atrial fibrillation, was on a new medication that could have led to the accident. Simmons took to X (Twitter) to thank fans for their kindness and concern and reassure them that he was alright.
KISS Kruise: Landlocked In Vegas
The accident comes as KISS has two important events coming up on the calendar. On November 14-16, the band will make its first appearances together since its farewell tour as they celebrate 50 years of the KISS Army. The event was initially called KISS Army Storms Vegas, but is now titled KISS Kruise: Landlocked in Vegas. The event will feature sets by the band, as well as performances by other bands, contests, panels, and other activities. Here is a look via the band’s X account.
48th Kennedy Center Honors
Less than a month later, the band will get together again. The 48th Kennedy Center Honors will take place on Sunday, December 7, in Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump will host as the institution honors KISS, country singer George Strait, “Phantom of the Opera” star Michael Crawford, pop singer Gloria Gaynor, and actor Sylvester Stallone. The event will air on CBS and Paramount+ at a later date.
KISS has accumulated nine Top Ten albums and 12 Top Twenty singles. The band has had 30 albums certified Gold, Platinum, or Multi-Platinum. Their innovations in stage sets, sound and lighting equipment, costumes, makeup, pyrotechnics, merchandise, and branding set a new standard in the music industry. The four original members of the band (Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
