Kesha Releasing New Album Under Kesha Records

Calming classroom music

Pop star Kesha is ready to make music again after signing a distribution deal with ADA. After the contract expired, Kesha, who had previously been signed with Dr. Luke, decided to free herself by departing from Dr. Luke’s label, Kemosabe. The pop star already told fans that she will be releasing an album next year under her record label, Kesha Records, and will be returning without her signature sound that ties her to the defamed producer.

Kesha VS Dr Luke

Kesha

In October 2014, the singer filed a civil suit against her then-producer, Dr Luke, based on emotional distress, employment discrimination, and sex-based hate crimes. Dr Luke has denied these allegations and has filed for defamation against her and her mother. In 2016, a judge ruled against her request for a preliminary injunction that would release her from her contract. In April of the same year, another judge, Judge Shirley Korniech, dismissed all of her sexual abuse claims.

Kesha’s Label and The Importance of Being Independent

On Monday, the star broke the big news. She launched her label via Warner Music Group’s independent distribution arm, ADA. According to Rolling Stone, ADA will work with her management company in marketing and promotion. Working independently will allow Kesha to maintain ownership and have full creative control over her work.

What Kesha Is Up To In The Meantime

The popstar would probably be busy recording and writing new music; she has already released a single, Joyride, through her new label and has sung over fan-made re-recording of her smash hit and classic, TikTok. Amidst the P. Diddy drama and everything she has been through, it only made sense that her fans would change the opening lyric, “Feeling like P. Diddy,” to “F**k Pdiddy.” Most pop fans feel like she should make it official and re-record the song to match that. Perhaps in the future through the new label?

In Conclusion

Kesha wrote over 70 songs for her album, Warrior, and Dr Luke scrapped the majority. She had no say in which songs made it onto the final album, nor what her message or image would be. With this, she will call the shots and direct her musical career. More artists should go independent. Kesha is doing it to control her narrative, but other artists should consider this route as well, as many of them are being robbed blindly. Hopefully, Kesha gets everything she wishes on this path, and that it works out well for her.
