Cardi B Legal Trouble: Battery Assault Lawsuit Filed

After Cardi B was accused of assaulting a fan with a microphone during a live performance 2 years ago, the rapper is facing legal repercussions for the viral incident. The concertgoer, a woman from Cleveland Ohio, filed a lawsuit July 21, alleging assault, battery and negligence against the Grammy-winning rapper.

Cardi B Lawsuit: Attorney Says Fame Shouldn’t Shield Accountability in Court

In the lawsuit, reviewed by USA TODAY the woman, who opted to remain anonymous, alleges the rapper participated in “an unreasonable escalation” that resulted in “reputational and emotional harm.”

“It is quite the feat to take on someone that is known and loved like Cardi B, the woman’s attorney”, Cierra N. Norris, said during a July 24, press conference. “Thank God we are not in a court of public opinion, but we are in a court of law”. Norris also wrote in an Instagram post: “No one should be afraid to hold someone accountable just because they are famous, adding that the woman is going by the pseudonym Jane Doe because she is suffering from mental health issues as a result of the incident and wants to avoid potential backlash.”

The Stance of Cardi B Through her Attorney

Cardi B’s attorney, Drew Finding, has labeled the lawsuit a “transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown. He noted that the criminal investigation into the incident was closed due to insufficient evidence, suggesting the lawsuit lacks merit.

Cardi B’s previous explanation

In a 2023 interview on The Breakfast Club, Cardi B explained that while she has allowed splashing during her performance, she asked the audience to avoid her face. She stated that she reacted instinctively by throwing the microphone after the woman threw a drink with ice on her face. She also suggested the woman might have intended to harm her.

Doe’s attorney argued that even if Cardi B encouraged splashing, her reaction was disproportionate and constituted assault and battery. The lawsuit also includes a claim of negligence against Drai’s Beachclub, arguing the venue should have anticipated such behavior. Drai’s Management Group is being sued because of its staff members alleged failure to intervene to halt or de-escalate the conduct that led to the violence incident.

Conclusion

People are reacting to Cardi B’s recent lawsuit, filed by Jane Doe with a mix of support for both sides. Violence is never accepted on anyone’s part, but some people are just looking for a quick payday. Celebrities really need to be careful of how they conduct themselves, because the simplest things can get them sued.
