BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim is embarking on her solo career. After her success with “You & Me,” Jennie aims to continue. This time, she’s making big moves, signing with Columbia Records. Jennie’s also dealing with someone writing a book and pretending to be her father. How does she live through the ugly parts of glam and pop culture and still come out on top?

BLACKPINK emerged in the music scene circa 2016. The female K-pop group quickly rose to power, becoming the highest-charting Korean act on the Billboard charts and the only artist from the country to headline one of the biggest music festivals in the US, Coachella. The girl group quashed speculations of disbanding after signing an exclusive group contract with their agency, YG Entertainment. However, there’s no news of their group’s comeback for this year.

Odd Atelier And Columbia Records

All BLACKPINK members split with their label, YG Entertainment, for their solo output. Jennie founded her label, Odd Atelier, in November 2023. She announced that OA is a space that aims to create new things that attract attention from the usual or expected. Today, it was announced that Jennie has signed with Columbia Records as a solo artist in partnership with her record label Odd Atelier. Jennie is set to make a solo comeback with a single this coming October.

False Rumors Of Her Father Writing A Book

Despite the good news of her comeback, Jennie is quashing rumors about her father writing a book about her life. The former TV producer was reported to have written a book detailing the singer’s journey from her trainee days to the blooming of BLACKPINK, which garnered attention. However, OA announced that these claims were false. Jennie’s father is not in her life, and these illegally produced publications impersonating her are blatant falsehoods and have no connection to her. The agency released an official statement and reminded people to remain vigilant.

Final Thoughts

Whether with BLACKPINK or solo, Jennie continues to top the charts and make a name for herself. Earlier this year, she collaborated with Zico for “SPOT!” and “Slow Motion” with Matt Champion. Her first solo single, SOLO, released in 2018, also topped Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart. The track also recently surpassed 1 million views on YouTube. Many continue to look forward to her screen appearances, whether on a variety show or series, as her bright personality always shines through.

However, she recently turned down the variety show “My Name is Gabriel.” Still, people can see her work on the HBO series “The Idol” with the Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, where she sang the hit track “One of the Girls.”
