‘American Idol’ Music Exec Robin Kaye and Husband Shot and Killed in Their Suburban LA Home

American Idol music executive Robin Kaye and her husband, Tom Deluca, were found murdered in their suburban Los Angeles home on July 14th. Robin had been the music supervisor on the long-running competitive singing show since 2009. Her husband, Tom, was a producer in the music industry. The two were discovered after a friend asked police for a welfare check. Both had multiple gunshot wounds, and they were found in separate areas of the home.

A prior service call was requested at the couple’s home on Thursday, July 10. A neighbor had seen someone trying to scale the wall of their property. Police responded, but after being unable to get into the Kaye/Deluca property, they used a surveillance helicopter to fly over it. They concluded there was no threat.

It was Monday afternoon, July 14th, when the grim discovery was made. After not hearing from the couple for several days, police were dispatched to check the residence. They entered by breaching a window and discovered the couple, both shot multiple times. They were in different areas of the house. Tom Deluca was found in a bathroom, while Robin Kaye was in the pantry area of the kitchen.

At this point, the motive for the killing is unclear. There was nothing taken from the house, so investigators likely have ruled out theft. Suspect Raymond Boodarian was arrested without incident on Tuesday, July 15th. He lives in the area, and it isn’t known if he was the suspect in an earlier break-in at the couple’s residence.

Guy Cohen, who is a security expert, advised Robin Kaye and Tom Deluca several months prior. They had been victims of a home invasion then. Cohen stated:

We consulted with them just a couple of months ago and to think that maybe we could’ve prevented this from happening is just heartbreaking.

It is uncertain if Boodarian is also responsible for the other home invasion from the one earlier this year. In a strange coincidence, it’s reported that late rapper Juice WRLD had lived in the house before the couple lived in it.

American Idol Remembers Robin Kaye

Kaye was much loved on the popular singing show. As music director, she would secure the rights to songs that the artists would perform in the competition. A spokesperson from the show said:

We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband Tom’s passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came into contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathies with her family and friends during this difficult time.

Robin Kaye had been with American Idol for over 15 years. Before that, she was a supervisor on LipSync Battle and Miss USA. For her work on American Idol, she had won several Guild of Music Supervisors Awards. Her husband, Tom, had written for Kid Rock and Meredith Brooks. He released his latest album, entitled ‘Street Rock,’ in 2022.
