Released on February 22, 2005, “Lonely samples Bobby Vinton’s 1964 hit “Mr. Lonely”. With Vinton’s vocals sped up to create a chipmunk-like effect, the song’s hook became one of the most memorable on the album. Written by Akon, Bobby Vinton, and Gene Allan, the mid-tempo hit was produced by the artist and Disco D. “Lonely” achieved significant international success, reaching number one in several countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. In the United States, “Lonely” was certified 4× Platinum with 4 million copies sold.

The first single from Akon’s second album, Konvicted, the upbeat track was released on September 26, 2006. With an exciting appearance by Eminem, the song quickly became a fan favorite. It was produced by Slim Shady himself, with additional writing by Akon, Mike Strange, and Luis Resto. The song reached number one on 10 charts, peaking at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song remained there for five consecutive weeks. In the United States, the song went triple-platinum. Internationally, it topped charts in multiple countries including, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Ireland.
