Under the historic lights of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, Shania Twain was lowered to the stage during an entrance to remember Thursday night for the second annual People’s Choice Country Awards. The country music legend told People she was excited to host as a way to present country music the way she likes it – filled with glamorous attire. Although there was no actual Shania Twain performance, the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” artist put her all into delivering as host for the awards show.
Let’s Go, Girl
Shania Twain’s opening act was over the top. Sitting in a heart-shaped silhouette, Twain made her grand entrance to the Grand Ole Opry in a head-to-toe white fringe ensemble into a heart-shaped group of male dancers to the tune of “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” One on the historic Nashville stage, she proudly declared, “That’s how Shania Twain enters a room.”
The Rolling Stone reported that the entrance was a “mega-tease” that left many audience members, including Machine Gun Kelly, wanting more. The song was described as a “country clarion call.” It seemed like she would sing at least the song’s chorus. However, she welcomed the audience to Nashville and got the show underway.
A Host, A Fan, And A Nominee
In a Us Weekly report, Twain had been looking forward to the event from the perspective of a country music fan. As an artist who began her career in Nashville, she said being selected to host the second annual event brought things full circle. In the report, the 59-year-old singer drew inspiration from one of her favorite country music artists, Reba McEntire. Twain told Us Weekly that McEntire was someone she felt was a great host because she speaks from personal experience.
Although she began her career in Nashville, Twain has most recently got to know the city of Las Vegas. She has been a residency artist for her show, Shania Twain: Come On Over – The Las Vegas Residency – All The Hits!. Twain was nominated by fans in the Concert Tour of 2024 category, making her a host and nominee. Unfortunately, she did not add “award winner” to that list. Top honors went to Morgan Wallen for his One Night At A Time 2024 tour. Other artists nominated included Luke Combs, Jason Aldean, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and Zach Bryan.
Glitz and Glamour
To help promote the show, Twain spoke with People Magazine to share her excitement about putting on a great show filled with glamour. By selecting outfits that embodied the early days of country music fashion, Twain did her part to bring the glamour back to country music. Her goal was simple – to feel her best in her stage outfits. In total, Twain had six different looks for the event.
On the red carpet, Twain wore a Levi’s denim mermaid dress covered in rhinestones. She dusted off her “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” outfit from the hit 1997 video. She teased her blonde locks to accentuate a cute polka-dot skirt and shirt set. The outfit had patches of stars, sunbeams, rainbows, and apples. She paired the set with white knee-length boots and a neckerchief. Twain also rocked a short black skirt and a long print jacket for look five. To close the show, Twain wore a full-length red sequin corset gown.
Final Thoughts
Shania Twain set out to feel great in glamourous outfits and delivered. In multiple articles across the web, many writers focused on the negative comments, which conveyed the collective thought, “Where is the real Shania Twain?” These commenters said they were against her blonde hair and felt she had work done to her face. Other commenters praised the country star’s appearance and the array of looks she wore. With her entrance, she looked like she could be the inspiration for Country Music Barbie. Shania Twain continued to slay to the very end.
