Music Legend Carlos Santana Hospitalzed After Collapse: Texas Show Momentarily Postponed

Carlos Santana

Carlos Santana, one of the guitar greats of this century (and the last century as well), has been hospitalized. Santana, 77, canceled his San Antonio show last minute this past Tuesday, April 22nd. He was not feeling well during sound check at the Majestic Theatre, and out of an “abundance of caution,” it was decided that canceling the show would be best. Michael Vrionis, Carlos Santana’s manager, had said it was likely due to dehydration.

Carlos Santana’s Current Tour

The guitar guru and his band announced the North American part of his 2025 ‘Oneness’ tour late last year.  The first leg of it started last Wednesday, April 16. Santana had just come from a show in Albuquerque prior to his arrival in San Antonio, Texas.

At the Majestic Theatre, Carlos wasn’t feeling well during soundcheck. Before soundcheck was completed, he was taken out on a gurney. It was then reported he was hospitalized, suffering from weakness and dehydration. A show set in Sugar Land, Texas, for Wednesday was cancelled as well, and potentially his Friday evening show in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

A History of Medical Issues

Very unfortunately, this is not the first time Carlos Santana has suffered from dehydration. In the summer of 2022 at a concert in Michigan, Santana sat down on a drum riser mid-set, complaining of lightheadedness. It was later determined that he was suffering from dehydration.

Earlier this year, as Santana was supposed to start his residency in Las Vegas, he suffered an accident at his home in Hawaii. He was taking a walk around his garden and fell, thus breaking the pinky finger on his left (fret) hand. He pushed his dates back at the Mandalay Bay House of Blues to September of this year.

Santana is Staying in the Hospital

Santana will likely remain in the hospital another day or so, as it’s been reported he also has contracted COVID-19. His rep states that he is doing much better and he thanks everyone for the well wishes. At this point, it is not known if he’ll continue with tour dates, or take some time to rest.

Ticket companies have told concertgoers to hold onto tickets, as a refund will be issued if the dates are not postponed. Carlos Santana hopes to begin his residency in Las Vegas in September, if all goes well and his health improves. We certainly hope to see him back out, playing ‘Black Magic Woman’ and all his amazing hits, sooner rather than later. Perhaps he’ll be out this spring to finish his ‘Oneness’ tour, and later on this year for his Vegas residency.
