The War of the Rohirrim is not the first cartoon film based on Tolkien’s book. However, it is the first Tolkien film created as an anime. It is the first Lord of the Rings movie with a leading female protagonist. Award-winning filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama will direct The War of the Rohirrim. Philippa Boyens will be the movie’s screenwriter, having worked on the live-action films.
