Spider-Man, Source of the Spider-Verse

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man made his wall-crawling debut in 1962. He became an instant mind-blowing success with readers despite publisher Martin Goodman’s initial doubts. Younger audiences immediately took to the web-slinger since he was a teenage crime-fighter. Most teenagers in superhero comics were resigned to being sidekicks like Robin with Batman. His climbing popularity eventually led to the arachnid hero acquiring his book series. From there, he became a fictional icon that modern people practically revered.

Everyone knows the origins of Spider-Man since every iteration constantly revisits them. Peter Parker was a mild-mannered genius until a radioactive spider bit him. After losing a beloved family member, young Peter began his superhero escapades. It’s a memorable yet heartbreaking tale that changes now and again. Sometimes, Peter doesn’t receive the spider bite or is not the only one to. This creative choice has produced a Spider-Man who stars in the Spider-Verse movies.

His Name is Miles Morales

Imagine a world where Spider-Man dies to his long-time nemesis, Green Goblin. Crime runs amok, and supervillains are left unchecked without the web-slinger around. Luckily, there is someone to step in and fill the web-shaped hole: Miles Morales. This Brooklyn youth gets bitten by a spider that bestows him with powers. He initially rejected becoming a generic superhero and continued with his life. That is until he witnesses the battle that cost Peter Parker his life.

Miles becomes riddled with guilt, knowing he could’ve done something to help. After attending Peter’s funeral and hearing Ben’s famous words, he’s inspired by never before. The youth begins following in the fallen hero’s footsteps and fights crime using his powers. Since his debut, Miles has become a fan-favorite character and appeared in various Marvel media. His most notable appearance is in the Spider-Verse movies that regale fans with his origins. They even expand his story by having him meet Spider-People from other realities.

Journey Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse recounts the canon events of Miles’ origins of becoming Spider-Man. He takes up the mantle after witnessing Peter’s death, though some changes occur. Instead of dying at the hands of the Green Goblin, Kingpin murders Peter. From there, Miles must stop the notorious crime lord from opening a dimensional portal. Luckily, five other Spider-People, like Spider-Gwen and an alternate Peter Parker, help him. They succeed, and Miles embraces his destiny, but the story doesn’t end there.

The sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, takes place over a year after the previous movie. Miles still protects the city as Spider-Man but has become distant and depressed. His situation worsens when he encounters the Spot, a portal-creating villain who seeks revenge. The only pleasant surprise is he reunites with Spider-Gwen and meets the Spider Society. Sadly, things turn when Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099, insists Miles must let his father die. Miles refuses to accept this and makes a choice that could destroy the actual Spider-Verse.

A Teaser in Chelsea, NY

Since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there hasn’t been much word about the next movie. The only thing fans know is it’s coming in the future. Other than that, they know it’s titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and the final film. The fandom is waiting patiently, though it seems their patience has paid off. A post over on Twitter showcases a 20-foot high light-up display of Miles’ Spider-Man symbol. It’s unclear what it could be, but devotees of the Spider-Verse films are going crazy.

They believe it could signal an incoming update about Beyond the Spider-Verse. There are theories that a release date for the movie will come to light. These speculations are because the display is in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York, Spider-Gwen’s home. Of course, there’s the possibility the display is an art piece made by a fan. It’s still an impressive feat that you cannot help but admire.

Final Thoughts

The massive light-up display of Miles’ symbol is breathtaking, no matter its purpose. It could be something made by a fan or an attention-grabber for the movies. Regardless, it is a testament to the fandom’s devotion to the Spider-Verse trilogy. The fandom can only hope their wishes come true and a release date reveals itself. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be entertaining, no matter its premiere date.
