2023 was a good year for released movies. Oppenheimer stole the show…so to speak…last year. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. led a great cast in Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio killed it in Killers of the Flower Moon. I really enjoyed Creed III and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and I was a huge Michael Jordan fan as a kid, so Air was fantastic.
In 2024, we have already seen Dune: Part Two, The Iron Claw, Late Night with the Devil, and Civil War. What’s next as we head into the summer months, where blockbusters are normally scheduled to release?
Five Anticipated Movies for the Remainder of 2024
Deadpool & Wolverine
July 26, 2024
Directed by Shawn Levy
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be released on July 26, 2024, and will be the first R-rated movie in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), this iteration of the Merc with a Mouth will unite with fan favorite Wolverine. Deadpool & Wolverine is said to restructure the Multiverse and potentially reboot much of the MCU. The number of rumors surrounding potential cameos and plots is seemingly infinite. If you have seen any YouTube videos by “insiders” or been on any MCU message boards, you are likely aware.
Borderlands
August 9, 2024
Directed by Eli Roth
Starring Cate Blanchett, Ariana Greenblatt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart
Releasing on August 9, 2024, Borderlands is one of the more plausible video games to be adapted into a movie, given how cinematic and visually pleasing the game is. Video game adaptation movies have always been hit or miss. This could be a huge blockbuster hit or another video game adaptation failure. The cast is very interesting. Jack Black and Kevin Hart can be a hilarious duo to complement the action and adventure this movie promises. As a fan of the video game franchise, this is a must-see for me!
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

September 6, 2024
Directed by Tim Burton
Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Catherine O’Hara, and Willem Defoe
Thirty-six years after the original “Beetlejuice” was released in 1988, Michael Keaton is back as the title character. Set to release on September 6, 2024, We are finally getting a sequel to the cult classic. Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder are returning to reprise their roles. Jenna Ortega, who is seemingly everywhere nowadays, will also star. The teaser trailer shows the family at a funeral, believed to be of Jeffrey Jones’ character, Charles Deetz.
Joker: Folie à Deux
October 4, 2024
Directed by Todd Phillips
Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, and Zazie Beetz
Joker, which was released in 2019, followed Arthur Fleck as he dove into mental instability to become a deranged killer. Little is known about the actual plot of the film, aside from Harley Quinn and Arthur Fleck falling in love at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum. Based on the title of the movie, however, we can assume both Harley Quinn and Arthur Fleck will share a delusion of some sort. The dark nature of the 2019 movie makes me want to see what is next for Fleck as the Joker.
Wicked
November 27, 2024
Directed by Jon M. Chu
Starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey
More than ten years after Wicked finished its uber-successful run on Broadway, it is now being adapted for the big screen. It’s not often you see a novel written as a prequel to a movie make it big on Broadway…and well off Broadway…and then get a huge movie production push. We are seeing it now. Cynthia Erivo stars alongside pop superstar Ariana Grande as two witches of Oz, who become friends. As we all know, Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, but this is story of how she gets there.
