Giancarlo Esposito has been in many highly acclaimed series throughout his career. Soon, he will enter another universe, the MCU. Fans have clamored for the five-time Emmy-nominated actor to join the comic book universe. Rumors have swirled about when it would happen and who he would play. In a recent convention appearance, Esposito teased his upcoming role.
Giancarlo Esposito Entering The MCU
Giancarlo Esposito wasn’t able to say much. Kevin Feige and the other executives of the MCU tend to keep things very secretive until they are ready to reveal. Many fans have speculated that Esposito would be tabbed to play fan-favorite villain Doctor Doom, but his comment threw some cold water on those rumors.
“The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict. It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards.”
It is a role we won’t predict. That likely means that Doom is out as many people are predicting Esposito to fill the role. The other interesting nugget he gave was there would be a tease and then a series. This may indicate that Giancarlo Esposito may be playing a smaller character, as Oscar Isaac did with Moon Knight. However, he was directly asked about playing Doctor Doom and said he would make an “excellent” Doom.
New Direction For The Cinematic Universe
The MCU is in a bit of a transition period. Phase four was largely a failure. There was a glut of content, and none of it had a real direction on where the story was going in the post-Infinity war storyline. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed Marvel is scaling back the content to try and have quality over quantity. This likely comes with story changes and moving pieces around to make sure the storyline has a clear direction.
Already we have seen delays in some of the films. Captain America: Brave New World was supposed to be released this year but got delayed at the last minute. It was delayed so late that McDonald’s was not able to change their Happy Meal schedule and is currently giving out toys from the movie. Reports surfaced this week that Blade is getting major rewrites, and the studio is looking for a new writer. Marvel Studios wants the MCU to return to its former glory.
Can They Recover?
The good news for Marvel Studios is stars like Giancarlo Esposito still want to be a part of the MCU, and he isn’t the only one. It has been rumored that Kevin Feige has approached Taylor Swift about starring in a Disney+ series. They have the star power, and while phase four has had some duds, there have also been some real hits, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home.
People have been clamoring for some of the new movies and series. As of right now, we have limited information and rumors, which makes it hard for people to be excited. However, regardless of who Giancarlo Esposito plays, I for one am excited about the role.
