It looks like Despicable Me 4 is off to a great start, as the much-awaited animation from Universal Pictures has just kicked off in style at the IMAX box office. Over its opening weekend, it pulled in $9.6 million across just 655 screens worldwide. That is not all, though; as of July 7, 2024, this beloved sequel had already grossed a whopping total of $229.5 million globally. Now that’s impressive!
Despicable Me 4 rocks IMAX
Despicable Me 4 had a good run in North America. Over the five-day holiday weekend, it raked in $8.3 million. That was from just 400 IMAX theaters—an average of about $20K at each spot. But we’re not stopping there, folks. Across the waters, our movie has been doing pretty well too.It brought in another cool $1.3 million to its overall earnings from international IMAX markets where it was released earlier. Right now, our total from outside North America is sitting around a neat sum of $1.8 million. So, here’s the fabulous news: including both home and abroad screenings on IMAX screens alone, Despicable Me 4 currently boasts a total collection of staggering $10.1 million!
Despicable Me 4 set for wider IMAX release
They’re planning on showing Despicable Me 4 in 96 more IMAX theaters in seven places across the globe. We’re talking about big markets like the UK, France, and Germany. The best part is that it’s happening next weekend!
This addition to the Despicable Me series brings Steve Carell back as Gru, a fun character we all love! He will be joined by an amazing squad of star actors: Kristen Wiig, Joey King, Miranda Cosgrove, Sofia Vergara, and even Will Ferrell playing the villain role.
Other IMAX releases
Despicable Me 4 isn’t the only movie making waves right now. A Place Called Silence, a gripping Chinese crime thriller, made quite an impact by earning $2.3 million at China’s box office since its Wednesday release along with Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One. This amazing flick also pocketed another cool million to add to its global IMAX pile of dough, bringing their total accumulation to an impressive $12.7 million. Also, don’t forget about Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2! It’s been the must-see movie of the summer, and it just keeps rolling in the cash. They’ve plopped another $500K into their IMAX money bin.
Upcoming IMAX releases
IMAX is gearing up to give viewers a fun-packed ride in the coming weeks. There are quite a few movie releases on the horizon that have people buzzing: Twisters, from Warner Bros. and Universal, is all set to roll out on an impressive 150 IMAX screens spread across 34 markets. You’ll find it playing everywhere—from Mexico and Brazil to Scandinavia and Hong Kong—even before its North American release date of July 19th.
But wait, there’s more! Indian 2, produced by Lyca Productions, will debut on not just any screens but 120 massive IMAX ones. These include both U.S. markets as well as India, among others. It looks like some thrilling times are ahead for all you film lovers around the world!
