Colleen Hoover is a romance and young adult fiction author who became popular after going viral on the social media platform TikTok in 2021. She is known for writing such books as Verity, It Ends With Us, Ugly Love, Reminders of Him, and November 9. Several of Hoover’s books have reached #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers List—in 2022, Hoover held six of the ten top spots on the list. Verity recently made headlines after the rights were acquired for a film adaptation of the popular book. The book was initially self-published in 2018, but the rights were later acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021. The book was then re-released, much more successfully the second time around.
What is Verity About?
Verity tells the story of a young author named Lowen who is contracted to finish the series of bestselling author Verity Crawford after Crawford is injured in an accident and is no longer capable of writing. While on the job, Lowen becomes enchanted by Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford. While rummaging through Verity’s office, she also finds a disturbing manuscript detailing the mysterious author’s extremely personal and private thoughts.
Lowen quickly becomes caught between keeping Verity’s secrets or coming clean and telling Jeremy what she knows. If she told, would it only be for personal gain? Or does Jeremy deserve to know? What Do We Know About the Film Adaptation of Verity?
On May 1, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Verity would be coming to the big screen. The screenplay, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, will be written by screenwriter Hillary Seitz. Seitz is known for her work on The Unforgivable (2021) and Insomnia (2022). This will be the second adaptation of one of Colleen Hoover’s books, with her bestselling novel It Ends With Us hitting theaters later this summer. What are Some of Colleen Hoover’s Other Works?
Colleen Hoover’s other hit novel, It Ends With Us, is currently slated for release on August 9. The film stars Blake Lively (Gossip Girl, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, A Simple Favor) and Justin Baldoni (Jane the Virgin, Five Feet Apart, Clouds), with Baldoni directing. Baldoni’s company, Wayfarer Entertainment, also produced the movie. Sony Pictures will be in charge of the film’s distribution.
Although the film was initially supposed to be released in June 2024, production was halted earlier this year due to the historic SAG and WGA strikes. After the conclusion of the strikes, filming of the movie resumed in New Jersey in January. Both SAG-AFTRA and the WGA struck a deal for fairer wages, reduced use of AI practices, and better working conditions.
The movie adaptation of It Ends With Us follows the life of Lily Bloom as she is caught between two love interests.
