The Bad Boys series began back in 1995. This was the first action thriller premiere with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Before that time each actor had their sitcom in the early 1990’s. It took time with production and casting to release a second film, but with the popular ratings hitting the charts, it continued to be in movie theatres worldwide.
The most recent Bad Boys For Life movie came out in 2020. Now, four years later, another film and release date is set. The biggest question is will Bad Boys: Ride Or Die be the last film in the action series this summer? Here is a breakdown of each movie over the last 29 years with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Bad Boys (1995)
The original film Bad Boys was released in 1995. Will Smith stars as the popular, flashy cop Mike Lowry. As Martin Lawrence plays as Marcus Burnett. Smith is never afraid of the action as Lawrence never likes to get into any kind of chaos. Taking place in Miami, Florida one of Mike’s friends was shot and killed by a drug king pen as two friends attended a “party”.
Based upon the investigation Smith finds out that a longtime friend (Max) is assassinated. It turns out that Julie, a friend of Max needs help to track down the murderer. In the midst of it all, both Lowry and Burnett have to switch identities as one of the partners is nowhere to be found (Smith) after he heard about his former acquaintance. The witness (Julie) never expected Marcus to be her helper.
With the two partners changing identities, it included places of residence as well. This made Burnett jealous along the way as Lowry was considered the ladies’ man of the two detectives. In the end, the killer was found and taken down as Smith got his revenge.
Bad Boys II (2003)
The second action film (Bad Boys II) came out in 2003. Once again involving Mike and Marcus. It all started with Burnett getting shot. Another drug heist was the centerpiece. Only this time it was being shipped overseas into Cuba. Marcus’ sister started to work on the side of Miami PD. As she tried to capture money that was a part of the shipment process.
While in a raging car chase, Burnett soon realizes that Sidney is involved in the investigation as a traffic jam/accident appears. As the journey continued, Lawrence soon found out that his partner and sister were together at one particular point in time. Needless to say, the two longtime partners did not get along as Lawrence was ready to retire after his time with Miami PD.
They did catch the man who wanted to ship his cartel overseas. In turn, Mike and Sidney ended up staying together as the investigation came to a close.
For Life (2020)
The most recent film Bad Boys For Life dropped four years ago in 2020. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have come of age. After 17 years since the second Bad Boys came out, Burnett has chosen to officially retire. Upon the celebration, both partners decide to race on foot down the busy Miami streets. As it came to a halt, Mike Lowry was shot and sent to the hospital. When he was discharged, he asked his partner Burnett, if he would help him track down the shooter.
The suspect had sharp shooting skills as Captain Howard was shot in a school parking lot on the next day. As time moves on, Mike Lowry discovers that his son was the shooter. It all went back to the mother who sent him to kill his father (Lowry). This instance also was the result of an identity change by Will Smith in the Bad Boys For Life film years earlier that was never shown.
Action ensued as both Smith and the son fought toward the end. He later saves his son but puts him behind bars.

Ride Or Die (2024)
Right now it is hard to depict what the Bad Boys: Ride Or Die film will be about. A movie trailer was released at the start of April. It is said to be flipped around as Smith and Lawrence will be disguised as criminals on the run. It could very well be the last Bad Boys duo that fans will see. Since both of the actors are getting older, the stunts are not the same.
Minor details can change on set, but the toll on the stars of the film becomes a different story. Everyone who enjoys the Bad Boys action series would hate to see it come to an end if that is the case. But, time will reveal itself depending on box office sales, and ratings that it may get when it is released this summer.
Four years later means that the anticipation after Bad Boys For Life was sky high in 2020 as Covid took over the country. With Will Smith and Martin Lawrence coming back for a fourth time, the excitement is that much greater for the new release.
Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is set to hit the theatres on June 7th, 2024!
