Nothing saves the day like a chick-flick. There’s one for every occasion and feeling: happy, sad, sleepovers, rainy days, and holidays. Chick-flicks might get criticism for being predictable or silly, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting a guaranteed happy ending to take your mind off your troubles.
Chick-flicks aren’t just for mindless watching, though. They’re feel-good movies with positive messages that can make you think about your relationships and life. If you’re searching for chick-flicks to watch with your friends, this is the list for you. These 5 are a perfect introduction to the genre and always good for a rewatch.

After Rachel’s boyfriend Gary is hit by a car, he accidentally switches Tiffany’s bags with Ethan and takes Vanessa’s engagement ring home. It’s swoony and funny; the perfect movie to watch with your besties.
#4: The People We Hate At The Wedding
The People We Hate At The Wedding is another 2022 Amazon Prime original. Kristen Bell and Ben Platt star as siblings Alice and Paul who attend their British half-sister’s wedding and face long-held family trauma.
Bell, Platt, and Allison Janney who play their mother Donna are all hilarious but still deliver during the emotional scenes. There are even cute romantic side stories that make The People We Hate At The Wedding a perfect chick- flick to watch with your besties.
#3: The Ultimate Chick-Flick: Mean Girls
“She doesn’t even go here.”
This list wouldn’t be complete without 2004’s Mean Girls. Lindsey Lohan plays Cady Heron, a teenage girl from Africa who starts public school for the first time. She’s invited to join a group of popular girls called The Plastics, led by the catty Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams. At the same time Janis, a classmate who was wronged by Regina, uses Cady to get revenge.
Mean Girls is iconic all these years later for its comedy, memorable lines, and campy style. If you’re looking for a chick-flick for girls’ night, this is it.
#2: The Proposal
Who doesn’t love a fake turned-real romance? Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds deliver in this 2009 romcom as Margaret and Andrew, a boss and her assistant who pretend to be engaged so Canadian-born Margaret can stay in the United States.
While in Alaska getting to know Andrew’s family, each other better, and dodging a suspicious immigration agent, the two fall in love. In between, Betty White plays Andrew’s wacky grandmother who roots for the couple the entire time. The Proposal is swoony and sure to make everyone laugh.
#1: The Age of Adaline
Bring your tissues for this one. Blake Lively dazzles as Adaline Bowman, a woman born in 1908 who becomes immortal after a car crash. To keep her secret, Adaline constantly moves around. Throughout the years, she’s left men heartbroken and in the present, she tries to keep her distance. Until she meets Ellis Jones.
The two fall deeply in love and when they travel to meet his family, she’s faced with her biggest challenge. Ellis’s father is her boyfriend from the 1970s. It’s heartbreaking, sweet, and a wonderfully told story with an important message: life is too short not to live it to the fullest.
