‘Worst Cooks in America’ Pays Heartfelt Tribute to #1, Surprising Anne Burrell
The cast and production team of ‘Worst Cooks in America’ paid a heartfelt tribute to the late chef and judge, Anne Burrell, on July 28th. Burrell was found unresponsive by her husband, Stuart Claxton, on June 17th, at the couple’s Brooklyn home. Anne was 55 years old.
Her passing sent shock waves throughout the culinary world, including those who had worked alongside her on ‘Worst Cooks in America.’ Burrell certainly brought life and vitality into every interaction, on or off camera, as well as hope to those wishing to be more than one of the ‘Worst Cooks in America.’
Stormy Weather
Her family recently released a statement, saying, “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.” Since Burrell’s death, authorities have ruled her death to be a suicide. “The cause of death was confirmed by New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, citing acute intoxication from multiple substances,” NBC sources said, July 24th.

Born in 1969, Burrell grew up watching TV culinary legends, i.e., Julia Childs, and attended the Culinary Institute of America after obtaining a degree in English and communications. Renowned for her trademark hair and spunky attitude, Burrell is remembered for her care and helpful spirit. Those who passed their “trial by fire” in ‘Worst Cooks in America’ found a teacher and friend in Burrell.

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray eulogized Burrell in a social media post on June 19th. Despite being surrounded by incredible chefs, she never once made me feel self-conscious about not being one — she always treated me as one of the gang. When we hosted ‘Worst Cooks’ together, we had the most incredible laughs. She even cooked for me and my guests at my wedding anniversary in Italy,” Ray said.
Ray, also a judge on ‘Worst Cooks in America,’ spent quite a portion of time with Burrell on the show. The ‘Worst Cooks in America’ features the “best” among those who strive for greatness in the kitchen. Burrell ate her fair share of odd dishes, but with humor and the tools to help contestants succeed.
You’ve Got a Friend
“She remained a constant presence on the network, accumulating legions of fans for her culinary prowess, platinum swoop of hair and ebullient demeanor,” The New York Times stated. Burrell’s presence is missed, especially on ‘Worst Cooks in America,’ but her legacy remains a beacon in the culinary cosmos.
