“The Vampire Lestat” Showrunners, Anderson, and Reid Reveal Rockin’ and Bloody Season 3 Details
Oooh, oooh, oooh, oh yeahhh… after that explosive Season 2 finale of “Interview with the Vampire,” we’ve all been dying for more. The good news? Season 3 is coming. The even better news? It’s all about the Brat Prince rockstar vampire himself. Get ready to sink your fangs into “The Vampire Lestat.”
“Interview with the Vampire” Becomes “The Vampire Lestat”
AMC is officially adapting the second book in Anne Rice’s legendary series, which means we’re finally getting the rockstar Lestat de Lioncourt origin story that we need and deserve. Sam Reid is trading in his powdered wigs (well, mostly) for body-hugging leather pants and a microphone to embrace his inner David Bowie.
But this isn’t just a wild and hedonistic concert tour; it’s a deep dive into Lestat’s chaotic past, his tumultuous present, and a future that looks set to implode spectacularly. While the official premiere is slated for 2026, the breadcrumbs being dropped are more than enough to get the (delicious) blood pumping.
What is “Vampire Lestat” About?
Forget everything you think you know. Season 3 is flipping the script, putting Vampire Lestat front and center. This season will juggle two timelines: Lestat’s rise from a French nobleman to the God-like rock icon of the 80s, and his present-day legal showdown with his eternally emo fledgling, Louis de Pointe du Lac.
The heart of the season is Lestat’s band, “The Vampire Lestat,” and their world tour. But this isn’t just about the music. We’re going to see how Lestat became the legend he is, the creation of his most iconic songs, and how his past relationships – both mortal and immortal – shaped him. And if you’ve been paying attention, you know his relationships tend to end in fire, betrayal, or both.
The Music of Vampire Lestat
Music isn’t just a backdrop for this season; it’s the main event. Composer Daniel Hart, the genius behind the show’s sound, is crafting original earworms for Lestat’s band. Showrunner Rolin Jones has confirmed that entire scenes and story arcs are being built around these songs. We’re not just hearing a track in the background; we’re seeing Lestat perform them, live and on camera, channeling his centuries of pain, love, and rage into every single note.
So, what’s the vibe? Sam Reid teased that Lestat’s sound is a wild mix, incorporating everything from classical symphonies to David Bowie. He described rock music as “inherently vampiric,” and the show will explore how Lestat melds sounds from different eras to create something entirely new, yet deeply personal. One track is even said to have a Chappell Roan influence, so expect some serious genre-bending.
Fans have already gotten a taste with the track “Long Face” playing in an episode of the spinoff “Talamasca.” This was a clever easter egg that proves the interconnected universe is just getting started.
Who’s in the Vampire Lestat Cast?
While this is Lestat’s show, the whole dysfunctional family is coming along for the ride. Jacob Anderson returns as the ever-brooding Louis de Pointe du Lac, Assad Zaman is back as the ancient and manipulative Armand, and Eric Bogosian reprises his role as the world-weary journalist Daniel Molloy.
But the new faces are where things get really interesting. Legendary actress Sheila Atim has been cast as Akasha, the “Queen of the Damned” herself. For book readers, that name alone is enough to send shivers down your spine. Akasha’s arrival is a seismic event in the vampire world, and her presence means things are about to get biblical in a vampire way.
Joining her is a stacked roster of new talent, including Jennifer Ehle as Gabrielle, Lestat’s mother. Rolin Jones described her entrance as an “asteroid” set to “destroy everything in her wake,” so yeah, mommy issues are definitely on the agenda.
We’ll also meet Marius (Christopher Heyerdahl), an ancient and powerful vampire who plays a crucial role in Lestat’s story, and Magnus (Damien Atkins), the twisted vampire who made Lestat. It’s a full-blown reunion, and we can’t wait for the fireworks.
When Can We Expect Season 3?
Production is happening now in Toronto. So it looks like the fang-fare (see what we did there?) shall begin in 2026. Nothing will get your fresh blood pumping like watching a rockstar vampire.
