Twisted Metal S2 Ep 4-5 Review: Intense Action and Shocking Twists
Well, it took its sweet time, but the Twisted Metal tournament has finally kicked off, and honestly, it’s everything we hoped for and then some. Peacock’s adaptation is cranking up the chaos, and we’re here for every bloody second of it. Episodes 4 and 5 delivered on the long-awaited carnage, rivalries, and explosions as the drivers prepare to throw sanity out the window (assuming any was left to begin with).
Let’s talk about what went down. Spoilers ahead, so either buckle up or hit the brakes now.
The Tournament Starts (Finally!)
After teasing us for what feels like an eternity, Calypso is ready to roll the dice and set his twisted competition in motion. The tournament begins with one simple set of rules that brilliantly capture the essence of this insane world:
- Pick up the package.
- Drive to New Tournament City.
- Oh, and try not to die. Simple, right?
Chaos erupts on the starting line, setting the tone for what this psychotic demolition derby is all about. Drivers come prepared with weapons, wild car modifications, and grudges ready to boil over. But, in true Twisted Metal fashion, victory comes at the price of, well… basically anything remotely resembling morality.
John and Quiet’s Relationship Sparks Again
While the tournament is the show’s main stage, the spotlight is often shared with John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz). The duo’s chemistry, which has always simmered just beneath the surface, reaches a boiling point in these episodes. Their dynamic is part flirty banter, part tender emotional ties, and part “do we trust each other with our lives or not?” Spoiler alert—they do. Kind of.
Between high-stakes heists and fighting off everything Diesel City throws at them (including perverts, snipers, and unhinged dictators), they somehow find time to reconnect… even getting distracted mid-heist to reignite their spark (literally, as they burn the vault down around them). Who said romance was dead?
The First Prince of Calypso
Every twisted game master needs a suitably ominous introduction, and Calypso doesn’t disappoint. Entering with the flair of someone who’s never heard the phrase “subtlety,” his theatrical grand entrance sets the stage for all the madness to come. Calypso’s charisma, combined with his merciless rules for the competition, ensures he’s already a captivating antagonist. What can we say? Every good show needs a manipulative puppet master.
Plus, his brutal explanation of the tournament stakes makes one thing painfully clear—not everyone (or their cars) will make it out of this race intact.
Sweet Tooth Unleashes More Mayhem
We can’t talk about Twisted Metal without mentioning Sweet Tooth. The psychotic clown with a taste for theatrics (and murder) is more unhinged than ever. From impulsive killings to donning a Dracula cape (because, why not?), Sweet Tooth is consistently one of the most entertaining—and terrifying—characters on screen.
Oh, and did you think he’d just sit this race out? Think again. He’s bringing his twisted vengeance and fondness for chaos to the tournament. But wait, there’s more! Rounding out that twisted grin of his is the threat of a new rivalry brewing—with none other than Mr. Grimm. Watching these two maniacs square off promises to be a showdown for the ages.
What to Expect Next in Twisted Metal
This is Twisted Metal, so expect even more carnage, alliances that won’t last past the next corner, and the kind of dark humor that makes you laugh while wincing. The drivers are out for blood, be it through manipulation (Mayhem’s game is strong) or sheer brute force. John and Quiet’s mission to topple the walls separating the haves and have-nots will face some brutal challenges, especially with Sweet Tooth and Mr. Grimm circling like vultures eager for their pound of flesh.
We’re also keeping an eye on budding rivalries, personal vendettas, and new faces in the competition. Will Mayhem make it to the next round unscathed? Will Sweet Tooth gleefully knock more heads? We’ll find out soon enough.
With the Twisted Metal tournament officially started, Peacock’s adaptation is hitting its stride, delivering on the absurd violence and unhinged antics that made the games iconic. Episodes 4 and 5 set the stage for what looks to be an escalating war filled with more fiery explosions, twisted motives, and violent showdowns.
If you’re not already strapped in, now’s the time to jump onto Peacock and binge. Just remember, this isn’t your average ride. It’s a beautifully chaotic car crash you can’t look away from. Bring on episode 6.
