‘Tron Ares’ Director Praises Jared Leto’s Total Commitment to New Role
The release of Tron Ares is almost here, and fans are mainly excited about three things. The first thing is the digital world of the Grid merging with our world. The second thing is seeing Jeff Bridges reprise his role as computer genius Kevin Flynn. The third thing is the mysterious digital warrior Ares, played by Jared Leto. Recently, the film’s director discussed Leto’s method acting when playing the role.
Tron Ares Director on Leto’s Commitment

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the director Joachim Rønning discussed how Leto remained in character even when the cameras weren’t rolling. He stated:
“It’s like, yes, he’s in character for the most part when we did this film, but that’s great. Honestly for me as a director, whatever works, I think he’s one of the best actors in the world.”
He continued to discuss how Leto’s commitment was so great that people addressed him by his character name when on set.
“Whatever works for him works for me and then some. But yeah, I do address him as Ares when we’re filming and everybody goes, we get a little bit up. He’s the general walking onto set, which is fine. And it’s not uncommon for actors to do it like that. And it works for him. And I think you can feel it in any movie he makes. He’s completely into the character.”
What Does Method Acting Do For the Character?
As we can see in the film’s trailer, Ares has an unnerving stare, letting you know that he isn’t of this world. The trailer and TV spots hint that he might slowly become more human-like as the story progresses, which is further confirmed by the director comparing him to Pinocchio:
“Ares wants to be a real boy. We talked a lot about him almost being an infant, discovering the world for the first time, and how we wanted the audience to see the world through his eyes.”
Of course, we have to see the whole movie before we can fully judge Leto’s performance, but from the trailers, he appears incredibly focused and intense. Does addressing Leto as his character on set help him to fully immerse himself in the role? People can debate over whether method acting actually leads to a better performance, but there’s no denying that Leto has a real presence in the Tron Ares trailers.
When Does Tron Ares Come Out?
Tron Ares comes to theaters and IMAX on October 10, 2025. In just a few days, you can immerse yourselves once more in the fascinating digital world as it merges with our own world. With stunning visuals and an intense performance by Leto, Tron Ares looks like it will be a worthy addition to the Tron franchise.
